ha.. I have the Pell Grant and the Higher Education Grant (along with a couple scholarships and whatnot); my mom is a single mother of 3 boys, all of which are in college.
I just want to get into the higher tier of scholarships that are handed out each year.
I wonder if you could like... take them after your freshman year and the apply for better scholarships :)
probably is.
I would like to go back and take my ACTs again to see how I would do. Can you retake them after you've already entered into college? lol
GRE? whats that..
The Graduate Record Examination or GRE is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for many graduate schools in English speaking countries. It is created and administered by the Educational Testing Service consists of three graded sections and one research or experimental section that is not included in the reported score. Multiple-choice response sections are graded on a scale of 200-800, in 10 point increments. The writing section is graded on a scale of 0-6, in half-point increments. Sections may appear in any order on the test, with the exception of the Analytic Writing section, which always appears first.
One graded multiple-choice section is always a verbal section, consisting of analogies, antonyms, sentence completion, and reading comprehension passages. This section primarily tests vocabulary, and average scores in this section are substantially lower than those in the quantitative section. [1]
The quantitative section, the other multiple-choice section, consists of problem solving and quantitative comparison questions that test high-school levent. Each essay is scored by at least two readers on a six-point holistic scale. If the two scores are within one point, the average of the scores is taken. If the two scores differ by more than a point, a third reader examines the response.

I dunno what it was exactly, I said something around that.. 2100 something or other.. I'm personally just glad its over, and I never have to take the stupid thing again :)
Unless your going for your masters... then you gots the GRE :D
can't get passed lvl 2 :(
First The Pirate Bay and now TorrentSpy. Looks like these people have started getting serious.
Wow i didn't know about the pirate bay... they always acted like they were never going to get fined because of the laws there. Atleast that's what i read a long time ago.
Don't forget the infamous lokitorrent =\
Who knows where the thousands of dollars went...

A court decision reached last month but under seal until Friday could force Web sites to track visitors if the sites become defendants in a lawsuit.
TorrentSpy, a popular BitTorrent search engine, was ordered on May 29 by a federal judge in the Central District of California in Los Angeles to create logs detailing users' activities on the site. The judge, Jacqueline Chooljian, however, granted a stay of the order on Friday to allow TorrentSpy to file an appeal.
The appeal must be filed by June 12, according to Ira Rothken, TorrentSpy's attorney.
TorrentSpy has promised in its privacy policy never to track visitors without their consent.
"It is likely that TorrentSpy would turn off access to the U.S. before tracking its users," Rothken said. "If this order were allowed to stand, it would mean that Web sites can be required by discovery judges to track what their users do even if their privacy policy says otherwise."
The Motion Picture Association of America, which represents Columbia Pictures and other top Hollywood film studios, sued TorrentSpy and a host of others in February 2006 as part of a sweep against file-sharing companies. According to the MPAA, the search engine was sued for allegedly making it easier to download pirated files.
Representatives of the trade group could not be reached for comment.
The court's decision could have a chilling effect on e-commerce and digital …
weird... it says i've voted... but i know i haven't....
rgr. great info.
thanks!
well we can... but the average everyday secretary probably couldn't.
Most of the software doesn't even let you know it's installed if you don't' want it to. We use a program called Remote Scope which has this ability.
The contract thing would work probably...
I'm too lazy to do research right now, and I'll probably get better responses on here anyways.
Is it possible to just buy a 32" LCD TV and use it as your monitor and your TV? Not at the same time of course. Just a thought someone at work had today, and I didn't really have a clear answer.
Why shouldn't you do this (as I can't imagine there being any benefits... but maybe i'm wrong)?
speaking of discrimination, have you guys heard about supervisors monitoring employee computers? It's been talked about at my work place, as many employees are in hidden cubicles (they can see the boss before the boss can see their monitor).
It makes since to me, but I saw where laws would prevent this because of discrimination. For example, if a supervisor was monitoring someone's computer while they were on a 15 minute break and that person happened to be looking up ways to help treat cancer, then they could be fired so that they don't eat up insurance fees and no one would know that that was the reason.
your views?
Here you go...
But I would advise you not to watch the video part, just listen to the song. =p
(I couldn't find a music video and the others were live and didn't have good quality.)
awesome remake. agreed, don't watch the video.
I'm not too good at this kind of thing. However, I did ask my brother to take the rhythm test and he made a 96%. But he's also majoring in ethnomusicology... sooo.
I'm beginning to get interested in Red Hat. How hard is it comparatively?
Google will never partner with Microsoft... they are arch rivals. :D

Dear John,
I have been unable to sleep since I broke off our engagement.
Won't you forgive and forget? Your absence is breaking my heart.
I was a fool, nobody can take your place. I love you.
All my love,
Belinda. xxxxoooxxxx
P.S. Congratulations on winning this week's lottery.
back to the topic:
Going on the assumption that the 3/4 of us posting aren't wrong, which certification would you like to attain? I'm looking very forward to taking my CCIE exams, though they're four years or so down the road.
i like certifications because it's a reassurance to myself as well.
I disagree that certifications are useless though. Yeah you might have a dud who just memorized questions, but so what... fire him. And actually, people complained to Cisco a couple years back saying hey you're certifying these people in your product, and when they get on the job they don't know anything. After hearing this, Cisco made the test much harder (comparitavely) because of the reputation of the certs they offer. So I doubt it's soley for the money they bring in. Now if we're talking money because of "hey i'm certified in cisco so lets buy cisco" then yes, deffinitely. And i agree, after 10 years experience, the certs you had are useless which is why you renew them with new technologies. If nothing else, certifications (the peice of paper) show that you're willing to research new technologies indepth and put them to practice, keeping the company you work for up to par with the competition.
I know first hand that certifications aren't useless. I work for probably the biggest water plant design engineering firm in the sate. I was given a very generous raise for the sole reason that I passed my cert exams. And that's not just a theory...
I got 1,348,720!
um..no offence dude, but you kind of suck.
?
the video says june 30th 2007 :P
nice work though!
I tend to look at certifications as a very good foot in the door. Honestly, I can't see a company hiring a guy with 15 years experience and no certs over a CCIE or MCSE with 10 years. Experience is definitely a key factor in job placement, though certifications will most likely put anyone ahead of the game. I mean, if certifications are useless... what are there so many vendor specific certs?
If I'm a CIO and my network is run completely off Cisco equipment, then you better believe I'm going to hire the CCIE with 10 years experience most likely using Cisco equipment over the guy with 15 years experience doing who knows what.
If certifications didn't mean anything, college courses wouldn't be geared towards attaining them, major vendors wouldn't worry about getting people certified in their product, and the average salary of a MISM would be higher than a CCIE.
not a big anime kind of guy... but i do love Vampire Hunter D: Blood Lust
excellent movie.
I've been researching Carnegie Mellon's MISM program a bit. I'm curious as to whether or not it's worth the price (~$26,000/sem (if i get no financial aid and no scholarships)).
CCIE. I hope to attain this one day :)
It would be neat if in our profile we could view the total time logged in. just a thought.
I don't know. I talked on the phone with a girl from KBOX and it definitely sounds more user-friendly, thought it isn't as powerful and, in our case, more expensive.
Thanks though. I was seriously considering kace for a couple hours. Great recommendation!
I'm seriously considering Altiris for our corporation; more specifically, the Client Management Suite. We have 5 offices with ~100 computer users. Has anyone used this before? Is it pretty user-friendly? And is it worth it's weight in $$?
Also a harder question: What is the difference between this and OpenManage Systems Management?
wow that was an amazing article. great job
+2 kudos
I got a Ford Focus right now ~30mpg. I landed a job really close to home in January. I now drive 2 miles one way to work. With all my driving, I fill up once a month. The current gas prices hardly phase me.
Wow. That's awesome!
I had a friend in Dallas, TX who said that before all of this gas hike happened, he was paying something crazy like $.19/gal. He said that one day, the local gas station gave out free gas. Don't know how accurate that is...
hey, you're new. Welcome to the threads!!
I've seen you posting a lot and that's awesome... good to have more brains here :)
anyways, somehow I think a firmware upgrade fixed it, though only time will tell. After the firmware upgrade i did tests through speakeasy.com connected to the modem and connected via the router. The speeds were only about .5MB off, and in some cases the router was faster! weird, eh?
I goofed up though, and didn't run tests before the firmware upgrade. I was simply going on what i watched the cable tech do while he was here. So for all I know he could have clicked on DC for one test and then NY for the other.
yeah we're the cool ones. or maybe we're the...... naahhh
I can't wait to get bush out of office. I would be money that the main reason gas prices haven't gone down or we haven't found other fuel sources is because he has his hands in the oil stocks.
Then again, i could just be being ignorant.
Gosh Caleb, way to get everyone to think I'm an idiot! I should've never listened to your email. Ughh why did I post this thread!?!
Now I really am an idiot! ... ='(
well you did tell everyone it was me who brought it to your attention... which is why i said "i guess I stand corrected." :)
Could someone show me a good tutorial on setting up a free vpn?
Welcome to the Internet. More specifically, an intellectual part of it. It ain't the fun games of high school. There's a lot of witty people here. If you say something and it can be picked apart, sucks to be you. Learn from it and grow from it; at the very least, get over it, it's gonna happen. If you want to mope and whine about how hard life is, people are either going to ignore you or flame you more.
You're obviously unaccustomed to the culture here, and you're refusing to adapt to how it works. Instead you're trying to force your own culture on us. Well, that might work where you're from, but it doesn't work here. I recommend you read this page, though I will tell you now that the tone is very unkind at best.
odd.
Keep It Pleasant Do not troll by posting anything with malicious intent against another member (including, but not limited to, racist, sexist or religiously prejudiced remarks).
What will happen: Very derogatory posts will be deleted. Flame war threads will be locked.
First offense: 5 point infraction will remain on user's record for 6 months.

where was wolfpack's infraction for calling christina a b****? do mods follow different rules than regular members?
and why are you more concerned about looking 'witty' rather than the feelings of someone else? come on
>I don't know why everyone seems to be giving Narue good reps JUST for making fun of me.
I get good rep for strange things from odd people just as I get bad rep for trivial things from weak minded people. I think you're giving rep too much credit, as it were. ;)>basically saying that "you are an idiot for posting this thread."
Hardly. There are some pretty good scams and hoaxes, and a lot of smart people regularly fall for them.>If all of you really wanted to tell me, then why doesn't everyone just
>PM me instead of embarrassing me for absolutely no reason?!?!?!?!
If everything were done through PM then we all might as well just use email and forget about the forum.>This is really immature.
Pot. Kettle. Black. This is by far the most amusing thing you've said, honey.>Are mods even allowed to do this?
Mods are members too. Are we not allowed to participate in the community just because we also have an obligation to enforce the rules?>Isn't this called harassment!?
I'd say no unless it spans multiple threads and interrupts your ability to post without being attacked. If you can prove that this is the case, you're welcome to report those involved and the administration will take appropriate action.>I'm really just about to quit Daniweb altogether. I'm sure all of you
>will be happy if I did that.
Every time …
Tomorrow I'll fix the bad words filter. In the meantime, did you realize that the tooltip will still popup when the mouse is hovering to the right of thread titles instead of directly on them? This way you're not covering up any text with the popup.
I noticed that. I guess I'm just not used to it. I usually browse with my mouse over the links rather than to the right of them... not big deal i suppose. thanks
I've considered purchasing a few of those for the old printers at work. $20 adapter is better than a $200 printer with a nic built in =D
let me know how it goes.
ha, had the same problem at my work place. We just changed our domain from .com to .local
I'm sure your way was more time efficient... =\
I had a very odd problem today at work.
An employee couldn't connect to the file server (which is also the DC,DNS,etc). It's our main/only server(other than a print server). anyways, he was receiving a valid NIC/dns/gateway ip and could ping the server fine. Though when I tried to connect via \\server1 it timed out. I tried connecting via \\192.168.0.1 and the same thing happened.
I looked at our DNS service on the server and noticed there wasn't a (A) Host record in the FLZ for his login. I added it and after about 5 minutes he could connect fine.
I'm not convinced this was the problem though. If it was a DNS error, shouldn't I have been able to connect via \\192.168.0.1 ??
i was browsing old threads (which have filthy language) and noticed the popup thingy doesn't filter bad words. =o
sorry this is random, lol
Well I had the cable company come over today and they checked our cables and whatnot. Turns out we're paying for 8MB/d and getting 12MB/d but that's only if one computer is directly connected. If we connect through the router with the same exact test we're getting 6MB/d.
This is where you guys come in. What could be the problem? I'm going to check the firmware and settings in a bit, but I'm thinking the problem is deeper than that. I have a linksys 54g v5 router. The cable guy said that the router shouldn't be doing that.
well i like the feature, but i wish it could only pop up if say you hover over the link, or maybe even a details or preview button beside the link so that if you hover over it the popup will let you preview the first post. Now, that would be awesome.
