Hey guys, I posted this in site management, but I'm thinking I'll get more feedback here.
What is most important (hardware) when specing out a webserver?

^ ... well atleast you admit it. ;)
Thought this would get a lot of response...
Is DaniWeb comprised of more men or women?
Find a fault, and I will correct it.
mattyd: I was pretty sure you were just continuing the game, not meaning to cause an uproar. No worries brotha (not to be confused with m***a ;))
alright, so CPU isn't a big factor when specing out a web server?
I don't have a Xorg.conf file...
It should be in /etc correct?
Anyone know if they've released a 64bit version of Group Policy Management Console?
I need one bad =(
Hey everyone,
We're not running exchange server (yet) but we do want to backup our email.
The idea was to have a forward address to say myaccount_bu@company.com and have our server download the emails via outlook to have a backup copy.
Is there a way to tell Outlook to automatically delete emails that are say 60 days old, or to auto delete after a certain disk quota has been met?
thanks!
Hey guys,I'm getting complaints about the network being slow from time to time.I checked our event viewer on the server and am getting the following error.
Performance counter data collection from the "ASP.NET_2.0.50727" service has been disabled due to one or more errors generated by the performance counter library for that service. The error(s) that forced this action have been written to the application event log. The error(s) should be corrected before the performance counters for this service are enabled again.Event ID: 1017Source: Perflib
Anyone have any clue what this would be?Thanks!
Hey everyone, I'm not sure where to post this so feel free to move if needed.
A fellow classmate and myself are starting on message board project. I was asked to spec a powerful windows based system, but am unsure of what is most important in a web server?
Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
you get a memory

Hey everyone,
I'm still trying to get my mouse to work properly in Fedora 6.0
I am using a razer diamondback mouse, and only 2 of the 9 buttons work.
I've looked at some of the conf.org file suggestions, but can't make heads or tails out of it.
could someone treat me like the ignorant user I am, and post a step by step guide to what I should do?
I have also submited a ticket to http://www.razerzone.com to ask for Linux drivers.
Thanks!
one time, i read a book..... one time.
'Motha' + *profanity was a phrase coined in my generation to insult someone by indicting their Mother (along with the person) as less-than-upstanding or respected.
Respected people generally are those less apt to jump to rash decissions.
I'm really not trying to dis Daniweb at all... and I'm not just saying this stuff to take up for my gf or whatever, because I know that's what it looks like.
I was actually telling her the other day how cool you were.
But you did have the ba... word in your signature... so I just can't see the logic in jumping on someone for saying motha, while at the same time using such a higher ranking profane word in your signature that is displayed with every post on every thread?
Just admit, you too, were breaking the DaniWeb rules, and we can all go along on our happy ways...
someone mention profanity?

G.. D...., I love reading your posts. Even though I always disagree with you 200%, I still read it like it was the National Enquirer. Keep it up man, you're the greatest.
quoted from a Team Colleague... i'm pretty sure motha can be counted as innocent slang here...

The best VB.NET Book i have ever used is:
Visual Basic 205 Step By Step by Microsoft Press
Its amazing, i learnt everyting from it. It starts at noob level then moves onto advanced topics like ADO and mobile/web development. Also has lots of tips for VB6 programmers and is excellently written with many relevant samples.
just ordered it.
could anyone tell me if this is a decent book? It's a Thomson learning book, which always puts out good stuff.
jben,
if i have never programmed in vb (or much of any other language) would that be a good book to get?
I am currently using a wrox book, but it's horribly written.
