When i was a few younger, i used to watch naruto every friday night
@robertHDD, or punch yourself in the face... I just sneezed and nearly knocked myself out because i had my fist out and when i sneezed, my face wanted to get a closer look of my fist....
Congratz on solving the problem :)
@vegaseat, i may buy one just to go up to bill gates and say, "HA! I am a trillionaire! What now!" :)
@jim, will i am not avoiding the question... its just pretty hard to make you change sides and consider what really is happening. I am no expert in islam, I just know a good amount. so yes, I can make mistakes though i believe my points are valid. If I were you, I would have a debate with an actual muslim scholar. Send one an email with what you wrote in the above and see what he will say.
There are also book by well known writes that have wrote about this controversy within their book. One I know of is called "Misquoting Muhammad" By Dr. Johnathan Brown.
Ummm... can you be more clear? If you want to learn php, pick up a book, go get a subscription to a site like codeacademy/treehouse, and so on. This question has been asked many times...
@sneekula, DARWIN: Evolution and natural selection
So you are saying that because the bible is violent it proves that the Koran is not? If, on the other hand, you are saying the bible is as violent as the Koran, then we agree.
I was trying to think like you...
That does seem to be the case.
Islam does not have any responsibility over the well known terrorists, its the people who are using a religion to cover up their wrong doing.
The difference between a Muslim (in this case) and an atheist is that a Muslim has the official stamp of approval from religious leaders under Sharia law to act.
I was gonna assume that you will say that the aethiest believes in natural selection...
Can you please explain what context could be used to explain how Kill disbelievers wherever you find them. 2:191-2 is not actually a call to violence? If the Koran is God's infallible and eternal word then it must mean exactly what it says. It is not a parable or an allegory. It is a simple statement.
The disbelievers were the attackers at the time... Back then, the early people of islam were often harmed in some way. Conquest and warefare was used to protect themselves against those who wanted to kill them. If a person was about to kill you because you were a certain religion you don't like, you were supposed to defend yourself. You have to consider history...
The Quran still …
And yet in your second paragraph you cite many examples of violence in both the old and new testaments, so your first statement is false.
Well, all i am trying to point out is that we shouldn't be taking things out of context. And you said that islam is violent, so i pointed out examples from the bible. Just because talks about violence, it doesn't mean the people are to be violent.
That's basically a call on all Muslims to carry out assassinations in the name of their faith.
So, i am guessing that makes me and over a billion other muslims official assassins... and we kill people if they hurt our feelings...
All i can say is that we should not be taking things out of context. If islam is considered the religion of peace, there is a reason for that... and i should really stop typing all these up on my phone...
Yep, I agree with the OP. Sadly, people will continue to take credit for minimal amounts of work while the person who did the work will not get much out of the other person.
Is the show good? I may consider watching it. I don't even watch Breaking bad or walking dead... i wanna start watching some shows, for once.
Jim, no religion promotes violence (at least the religions I know of). Islam doesn't promote it. Saying islam promotes violence is like saying all religions do too.
Wrong. There are numerous places in the Koran that specifically call for death to infidels. These examples are not ambiguous. They cannot be explained away as errors in interpretation.
In a simple search, I found this about the bible: In Samuel 15:2-3, the Lord orders Saul to kill all the Amalekite men, women and infants, 2) In Exodus 15:3, the Bible tells us the Lord is a man of war, 3) In Deuteronomy 13:6-16, the Lord instructs Israel to kill anyone who worships a different god or who worships the Lord differently, 4) In Mark 7:9, Jesus is critical of the Jews for not killing their disobedient children as prescribed by Old Testament law, 5) In Luke 19:22-27, Jesus orders killed anyone who refuses to be ruled by him.
It's because Islam is, at it's core, a religion that promotes violence and intolerance. Note that the debate concerns appearances rather than realities.
We can't be quick and shoot at any religion and say they promote violence. People take the words out of context. People have to take the time to understand another persons religion before they jump to conclusions. Take context into consideration, don't let a minority group influence your perception of a group as a whole. The taliban, isis, and al qaeda don't represent Islam because they don't …
@Robert, Yes. It was about the first world war and it was from the perspective of a german soldier fighting on the Western Front, France, and a bit in russia.
That's great to hear! And also, out of curiousity, are we allowed to put .gifs up as our avatars? Or is that still a no? And what happens if daniweb gets a user that is 101, should they lie about their age :P
Do you have any other questions about this topic? If not, you can mark this thread solved and give rep points to the posts you believe that helped you a lot.
they couldn't have included something like Childhood's End (Arthur C Clarke) or Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury) and skipped Of Human Bondage or Wuthering Heights
We read fahrenheit 451 in middle school. The best book we were given in High school, so far, was All Quite On The Western Front.
The performance of heath ledger makes me wonder what Jared Leto will be like... I can garuantee he will not do with Heath did but he will do something different, maybe not better, but different.
My older son was always an avid reader. With him it was mostly books on science. He is now doing a post-doc in bio-physics. When my younger son was in early school he liked to read the Goosebumps books by R L Stein. His teacher at that time discouraged him. We, on the other hand, felt that the books were harmless fun and encouraged him to continue. Today he has a college degree in Computer Science and still reads. He also writes as a hobby.
Parenting done right.
A Tale of Two Cities (for the third time)
Ugh... charles dickens... why did he make this book so boring... I had to read this for a book report, I felt miserable reading it. Normally i hate on shakespeare, but dickens disapointed me with this one.
Analyzing Criminal Minds
I read that book for psychology... we weren't assigned to read it... but i just felt that the title was psychology related.
Yep, I think I figured out how to duplicate this issue (not how i got it originally, but this is another way to get it).
I go to the edit profile page. Look at my birth year. I make it 01/11/95. It treats it as me being ancient, as if i was born in the year 95 rather than 1995... So basically, on the calendar that pop ups, it shows you that you inputted 1995 when you really wrote out 95. And no, that is not my birthday :P
Originally, when i went to the page, without making an update to my birthday, it said that I was over a 101 years old, even though i didn't make any changes to it... This also brings a new question up, what happens if you are a hundred years old and want to join daniweb :P
Wow... 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 languages? i find that remarkable. Your heads are going to explode.
Its not that hard learning several languages if your parents force you to learn all the languages so that you can communicate with your family members outside of the household living in other countries :P Plus it looks cool.
I actually have plans to spend Thursday with our graphic designer and his family (the dude who designed Fred!!), who very coincidentally will be vacationing in Miami at the exact same time.
That's cool! JorgeM is missing out :P
When it comes to the role of the iconic character, Joker, who played it best? Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger?
I believe Heath Ledger played it, by far, the best and no one will ever play the joker like he did. Jack Nicholson on the other hand was more of the comic version of him. I now wonder new variation we get of the joker from Jared leto...
My vote: Ledger
You guys?
And if I recall... we cannot put in gifs as our avatars?
I am trying to update my avatar and for some odd reason it says that I am 100 years old and I can't update it? My birth year is '98 and every time i update my avatar, it shows back 08/08/1914 (i keep udpdating my proper birth year)... and it says that, Sorry, you cannot be over 100 years old. Good for you, though.
All i wanted to do was change my avatar cuz it felt old... and now I feel daniweb doesn't have faith in users being 100 years old :P
Shouldn't this be moved to Databases forum? Anyways, I think this ancient thread that I found in the catacombs of the Daniweb search while searching for answers will help you: https://www.daniweb.com/web-development/php/threads/39857/how-insert-image-into-mysql-database-and-retrieve
Can you be more clear on your question? Are you asking us how to make a button? If that is the case, here is a hint: <a href="https://daniweb.com">Home</a>
... just style that with css.
If that isn't what your looking for, please rewrite your question and show us what you have attempted. No one is going to do all your work for you, espicially for free.
Consider reading this: https://www.daniweb.com/web-development/php/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question
Wordpress is the most commonly used cms. It has the most support, templates, plugins, and etc. I think that would be the more effective pathway if your designing websites. Drupal is a bit more complicated and you need to know php to use it. I am not experienced with joomla, but i heard it is not that great. If you want my pick, pick wordpress.
I don't think there ever is a problem with reading... i mean, i know for a fact that the average person who graduates from college/university will not pick more than a few books for the rest of their life time...
Pursuing reading is more of a personal thing. I for one, love to read, yet i am not even in college yet (and i know i will still pursue reading). My dad, he loves reading and still reads actively (excepts he likes to listen to books now using audibles and use the kindle app) and he has his PhD which he got some time ago. My grandfather still loves to read actively, except he prefers the traditional paper books (yet he hates reading newspapers...). Also, the genre of reading is going to be different as you get older. When your a child, you stories and tales. When your a (pre) teen, you begin reading novels and start picking up on a genre that you are not forced to read (for me it is biographies, personal development, finance/business, (computer) science, and scientific books, not sci-fi. I read stuff from people like Michio kaku, stephen covey, malcolm gladwell, and so on... i read from a lot of authors). When your an adult, you read whatever adults read (I am not an adult, so I am not sure what you guys like)
I am not sure who told you reading is bad, but as far as I can tell you, reading is great... …
You didn't have to take a foreign language class during middle school/high school? Wow, your so lucky... i hate taking spanish because of the teachers i have. They talk about their personal life history too much, we have too many substitute teachers, don't prepare us for tests, don't tell us about assignments, complain about other classes, and about complain her job... I am in an AP Spanish class, I think its a joke at this point... and I have no idea how the AP test will go because I have gotten a 5 on every AP test I have ever taken (I got a 5 on: Stats, Euro, Music Theory, Art History, and Physics. The current AP classes I am taking a test for are: Calculus, Spanish, Biology, Psychology, and US History (i dropped an AP course and another regular class so that I can play a sport)).
Hmm, is that a new thing? I never got a pm that refers to that because I never did a community introduction...
Yes, farsi, pashtu, and Dari are similar. Urdu is a bit different but at the same time not a language that is hard to pick up. Depending on where you are from in pakistan, there is dialect (I am an afghan born in a dari/farsi, arabic, and pashtu speaking home in California with parents that come from the capital of Afghanistan). So for me to speak urdu, it's a bit different compared to those who speak it and are from pakistan. If you hear me speak it, it's pretty thick and I speak it way to fast, almost to a point where you have no idea what I am saying.
Also, a fun fact, the alphabet is so similar for all middle east languages (they all are originating from arabic). Those who are dari, arabic, or pashtu speakers pick up on other languages better than most in the mid east because of the fact that they stuck with the traditional versions of each language rather than a new and simplified version such as farsi.
My dad on the other hand knows all the languages that I know fluently, but he also knows german. My mom is like my dad except she also knows hindi, italian, german, and a little but of Dutch. I don't want to get started with my cousins... they move into different countries so often that they pick up their language within the first month or so...
I am just bored... and curious... and i have not made a thread here in a long time.
What languages can you guys speak?
Atm, for me:
And as a bonus:
7. Urdu (my mom taught me enough to hold a conversation for about 5-10min...)
8. Havanese/Maltese (I have a weird way of communicating with my dogs... its literally grunting noises and other dog like sounds...)
And no, it is not a shocker to speak as many languages as i do if your parents come from a country that has to know 2 plus languages (not counting arabic). :P
So, now you know what i speak, what about you guys?
Question is unclear... I recommend you reading this: https://www.daniweb.com/web-development/php/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question
And based what i assume your asking, read these:

Well... look on the bright side, daniweb users are not like stackoverflow users... when I answered a question there a while ago as a newbie, i literally was downvoted so many times that my account was in position to be banned... what was my mistake you ask? I simply answered someone else's question and my answer basically just gave him the answer and i provided him some sources but what ticked me off is that another person (a person who is popular in the forum) posted the same thing i wrote, just a bit different, he got all the up votes... Stackoverflow, to me, just sucks in almost every way when it comes to the treatment of their newbie users (code project is nearly as bad too, but it has other benefits). The way daniweb is set up is perfectly fine by my opinion. The only time newbies get bombarded with downvotes and criticism is when they are disrespectful or if they ask us to do their homework for them without them showing their work.
The golden rule is: if you don't want anyone to see your stuff, don't put it on the Internet. Pretty simnple really...
Unless its your site and you have the power to do so... :)
Welcome to the magical world of daniweb! May all your questions be answered!
I am kinda lost what the question is...
I don't think any major forum is going to delete a thread for any user unless its bad...
@iamthwee, i personally would prefer if the form and button was in the middle, but that background though...
Yes, i agree with all of the above about the fact that your slider/banner varies on what site/service you have. But i do have to add that your content on the slider/banner should not be bland. They should be at least a bit more interactive than the traditional slider. You want your user to be interested in what you are presenting. Interactivity is a key feature now, and that should not be ignored. Also, you don't have to follow the traditional style of making websites, try to be creative, sometimes that path is better. For some inspiration, go to https://behance.net/ or http://www.awwwards.com/
Shame really as they do have their place, but as they have been in the hands of idiots, they have become synonymous with bad design and woeful content
Yep, its why all my sites i work on are aware of such critique ;)
Give me contant I can absorb without working too hard. Those neverending scrolling one page wonders are the next thing people are crucifying.
Haha, sadly, that can be true sometimes. Though, with the right designers/developers/programmers/whomever works on it, it can be pretty awesome at times.
That will certainly make me puke.
Then you may really like this one :P: http://www.worldslongestwebsite.com/
Your ranked 1250 overall or just in kill confirmed?
Um... C isn't that bad to learn if you spend the time to read the books and try out the codes. Its also good to make some projects in the process to demonstrate your learning.
Yeppie! it worked when i deleted that line. Now onto another issue. When the form is submitted, i for some reason am able to get a glimpse of the 2 tables that are meant to be sent to the user/person who submit the form and to me. I don't know if that makes sense, but I think its worth a shot.
So, to reword what i am trying to say... as soon as I hit submit, the page refreshes and shows me a quick glimpse of this before it sends me back to the form:
Can't i just delete that line that goes $message = $v1;
?
That's roughly $0.46 per afghanistani per hour! You could have paid the entire population of afghantistan $4,000/year and it would have been cheaper.
That's true. We give money to several families there and a hundred dollars covers a lot of their expenses.
Destiny, COD AW, GTA 5, Battlefield series
