I'm posting this in the computer science forum because I'm expecting answers to be along the lines of better thought processes, consideration for speed and memory management, etc. Or, maybe you guys will surprise me and you'll come up with some things that never crossed my mind.
So, as the topic states, what skills do you wish young/newer developers cared more about?

It was about 1985 and I was working on a radar antenna test system. It became clear that far too much attention was being put on memory and storage use. Speed was important because, hello production.
If you recall those years, memory and disk space was climbing so no reason to spend more time on memory and storage optimizations.
The older folk on the project were quite annoyed but hey, production and units per hour ruled the day. In just a year the storage and memory on the controllers doubled and as such was not the problem to be solved. Gulf War 1 broke out and the extra production capability was appreciated over any concerns of memory management.
-> Skills? The skill to determine what matters for each project with an eye on the future but not to the point it delays the project.
