I've noticed that all the PMs I deleted under the old DW have reappeared under my active conversations. I spent ages deleting every one of them before!!! Gah! BTW - is there not a "select all" checkbox or something - deleting every single one of them one at a time is ridiculous!

My daughter had problems starting her laptop for about a year. She would press the power key and sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes it would take 10 or more tries before it worked and then it would power on. Other times even after 10 tries she would get nothing, then taking out the battery and starting with the power cord would work. The other day none of those things worked and now the laptop won't start at all! When we press the power button there is no sound and the power light (the lightening bolt) blinks …

Google recently released a new update called Hummingbird. Now the page rank will not matter on the basis of keywords. The websites with autharative information will get more traffic. Does this mean that the other SEO practices have lost their edge?

Hey guys! My Asus G1S Gaming Laptop suddenly won't turn on for some reason. No light, no fan, simply lifeless. Before this, there were no signs like errors, automatic shutdown, etc. that it would die soon (did I mention all of a sudden?). I know it's probably the motherboard at fault, but I still wanna keep my hopes up cus no one here has really verified the main reason for this (as I have read a few posts). It just really bums me out cus I've loved this laptop for 2 years now. Anyone know how I can make this …

Here is an amazing article. Peter Norvig does not let small detail, that the language was never implemented in it's time, disturb his debugging the code written without implementation, but single handedly implements it with Python parser. Frustration warning, this is frustratingly amazing stuff: [Prescient but Not Perfect: A Look Back at a 1966 Scientific American Article on Systems Analysis By Peter Norvig | August 23, 2011](http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/at-scientific-american/2011/08/23/systems-analysis-look-back-1966-scientific-american-article/)

Earlier today, I unplugged the power cord from my machine to move it to a different room (the machine was running at the time). When I plugged the machine back in it did not respond and would not charge the battery. Slowly, the battery began to lose its charge, and eventually it shut down. I tried to plug, unplug, jostle, and wiggle the power cord at its connection to the computer but nothing happened. The computer will not turn on. The power cord is displaying a green light so I ruled out that it was the problem. I think the …

I know ive seen similar posts on here, but none of them seem to apply. I just assembled this computer with the help of my friend, who knows what he's doing with computers. After we put everything together, pushed the power button, nothing. he checked the connections, changed the power cords, and we got it to work once, boot up fine, installed windows, smooth sailing. I took it home and just tried booting it up again, same problem. literally nothing happens when i hit the power supply. I double checked all the connections to make sure they were tight. The …

I put together a custom built PC this week and had it working and booting up with no problems. However when I switched on my PSU yesterday, the motherboard would not power up and there were no lights on it and no fans/drives were spinning. Trying to solve the problem I unplugged the 24 pin ATX connector and plugged it back in to no avail. However after trying several more times the motherboard got power when the connector was half way in and when I pushed it fully in it still had power. The computer booted up and stayed on …

Rumor has it that Osama Bin Laden received his new iPad 2 and instantly became target #1. That's right Mr. Al Qaida, had you read the editorial threads on DaniWeb.com you would have known that Apple is watching and recording your moves. In a heroic effort to end that war on terror, Apple handed U.S. Intelligence the exact location of Bin Laden, leading to his immediate demise. A warning to terrorists around the world: we will find you and kill you because now "there's an app for that."

Hey everyone. Recently one of my friend's computer gave up on her. P III 677 MHz , 128MB ram, 30GB maxtor drive. I know its ancient, but if all you do is type documents and listen to music and ocasionally watch a movie or 2 its good. It was a pain to boot anything up so instead I decided to take out the hard drive and put it in my other PC (Core i5). My new PC is in a different place (geographically) and just as I finished saving everything and installing new OS on the drive, I decided to …

I'm working on another Pavilion (the 750n this time) and when you plug it in, it automatically turns on without the power button, does one solid beep for probably 5 seconds, and turns off, won't let you press the power button to try again. The only way to get it to do the problem over again is to unplug it, and plug it right back in. I started with the power supply, tried it with my own power supply, same problem. I unseated each RAM module, and moved them from each slot to see if it was a slot. I …

A windstorm knocked out power to my house for three days. I don not believe my Dell XPS 400 desktop was running, but after power was restored, neither the pc nor the monitor will start. I press the start button, and nothing happens. The printer is hooked up to the same surge protector, and it does work. Any ideas on how to start the pc up? thanks,

I disassembled an Asus A7S-A1 2 nights ago for a BGA reflow. Following reflow I inserted a stick of RAM, had the heatsinks re-seated with fan, attached the power button to motherboard and then connected the battery to test if reflow attempt was succesfull... good so far but heres where it all went wrong, lastly I connected the display data/video cable to the board, and a faint pop then burning smell and now no power AT ALL, no post, nothing. Obviously I should have had everything connected AND THEN lastly the battery. Anyway thats where I am now. It wasn't …

Dell 4500 was working fine up until yesterday but today, cannot power on. Tried: - Removed front cover - switch seems okay mechanically - Removed RAM, all drive connectors, and all cards except graphics adapter. Still nothing - no beeps, no signal to monitor Other observations: - No fans running now - Small green light on mobo is on - No other lights or activity - Was pretty dusty, some paths pretty clogged - Main CPU cooling fan turns easily by finger, not jammed From reading other posts, it sounds like the most likely culprits are: - Motherboard / CPU …

Hi I'm new here and would be grateful for some advice. I have an Advent 9617 laptop. The DC power cord shorted out and was replaced along with the charger. The new charger works fine but laptop would not run so figured out it was probably the power jack at fault too. I replaced that and now the battery will charge. But, the machine will not power up, with or without battery. I've tried the ATX reset several times. This is what happens- I press the power button and for a second or so it appears as if the machine …

Hi, I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NS10L laptop, and i haven't a clue what has happened to it. It was running windows 7 upgrade, originally on Vista. Have owned it for just over 18mnths, no problems, and just under a year on windows 7. It is very very empty in terms of content, it is a spare, just running MSN, Skype, office 2007, no music or movies etc. In the week before it died, 3 times it froze after using for around 2 hrs and made a very loud scratchy, screaming noise (sorry, only way i can describe it) and …

I have a Presario 700 which went dead screen on us. The LED's come on and I can hear the fan and harddrive running. I connected an external monitor and still nothing. I did the full power down with no battery or AC and held the power button 15 seconds, zip. I unseated the memory and powered down again, nada. I disassembled the machine and reseated the processor, still nothing. Any help? What next, a new Motherboard? It was replaced once already for unrelated problems. VERY frustrating.

Hey, I just put together my first custom built PC. I ordered all the parts from newegg, just for reference. Everything was going fine, put it together with little to no problems. Turned it on,it posted, and I started to install windows 7 on it. About a quarter of the way into the setup (it had just started installing the OS files and such) there was a sharp high pitched humm from inside the case and I BSOD'd and it shut itself down. It now wont do anything. Every once in a while if I try turning it on the …

I finished putting together an Asus P6T system last night and started it up. It started fine and went through several re-boots as it downloaded new drivers. I shut it off and now it won't start. The only thing I did this morning was to tie the power lines running to the CPU fan. They were loose and a little too close to the fan. The "Reset" and "Power" lights on the mother board are on. I've checked the power conectors a few times, turned the power supply on and off, unplugged and replugged it, and checked to see that …

OK. I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of. I have had my Gateway desktop for 5 years. I have never had any issues until I had to replace my graphics card. Now it won't power up. The fans run, there is a little orange light, and the disk driver light blinks. BUT it won't come on. I am at my wits end. Info I know (it was a gift and I am far from computer literate) Gateway model GT4022 Windows XP operating system 3gb Ram Nvidia Graphics card It doesn't have a lot of stuff on it so I …
