This is somewhat funny. I have just installed Fedora Core 8. When i start my pc i get a localhost login. I have to login as root and use the password i had set up during installation. Once i have done that i would really like to get into the gui. any suggestions?

type startx

thank you i am very new to linux. i appreciate your help.

You shouldnt need to do that. It should automatically start and should run the firstboot program for you to perform post-install configuration. Must be a bug

look at the default runlevel in /etc/inittab. should be 5 if you want to run X

there is a way to rerun firtsboot config if you need to

thanks for all of your comments i will try them out.
