Rundll32 errors at shutdown usually mean some autorun or Winlogon component is calling a DLL that fails to unload (missing/corrupt DLL, bad shell extension, or malware). was right to suggest scanning; since already ran Spybot/Ad-Aware/CCleaner, the next steps are deeper inspection and controlled testing rather than simple cleaners.

Actionable checklist to try next:

  • Boot to Safe Mode and run full scans with an up-to-date anti‑malware engine (for example, Malwarebytes) to catch infections some older tools miss.
  • Use Autoruns to examine Logon, Services, Winlogon, and Browser Helper Objects; uncheck suspicious entries that call rundll32 or reference unfamiliar executables/DLLs so you can test without deleting anything. (Autoruns shows the actual file path so you can confirm the real rundll32 is in System32.)
  • Check Event Viewer for the shutdown error time to identify the failing module, then run System File Checker (sfc /scannow) to repair core files if needed.
  • If uncertain which entry to disable, export/save a copy of startup settings and create a restore point or registry backup before making changes.

If the problem persists after those steps, post a cleaned HijackThis/Autoruns snapshot and note which items you disabled; that will let others point to the specific entries to remove safely. Good references: Autoruns (Sysinternals) and Malwarebytes.
