Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

wow need to get me one of those!

The distro has nothing to do with it. Any Linux distribution will do. Just install this:
http://www.novell.com/linux/xglrelease/

Edit: so this post isn't totally meaningless, here's my desktop

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

Well, here's mine, I think its pretty average. I have to completely switch to linux, I know, it just takes time.

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

Not until Vista as far as I know

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

cheers pty! now all i have to do is wait for vista or install linux on my desktop :d

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

or you can try a live cd (boots straight from the CD so you don't actually install the OS). It won't touch your Windows install at all

This link is to a mirror for Kororaa (it is no longer officially distributed by them because they aren't really allowed to include proprietary ATi and nVidia drivers), you just need a fairly decent nVidia or ATi graphics card and preferebly >256MB RAM.

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

or you can get the public beta

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

i don't think the beta (or rc1) has xgl/compiz pre-installed cos of the drivers not being open issue.

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

sorry - just read your post pty, downloading it now :d

the first link i gave was a download mirror

http://iso.linuxquestions.org/version.php?version=327

then just burn the disk image, heres how to do it in nero, i'd imagine other cd burning apps are pretty similar

then just put it in and reboot, and hopefully in a couple of mins you will have a nice 3d eye candy desktop. It may not run quite as fast/smooth as a installed one, i dunno i've not tried it - it should give you an indication though

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

By the way, a really neat way to create desktop backgrounds is to take screenshots of the iTunes visualizer while you're playing music. Here's my desktop now: [EDIT] darn that upload didn't work

http://rightonthruhere.thejefffiles.com/Picture%201.jpg:
Upload failed due to failure writing temporary file.

stupid thing, just use this url:

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

i can't attach my desktop, wtf...?

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

oh, these threads are so fun. I might even help the necromancy along :p

Current which I've not had time to fix up since re-installing about a month ago.

December's which I was just getting used to before my laptop went to the shop

This is what I had for a few months before that. And with stuff opened it looked about like this

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

Oh, and all the above were from my laptop. This is my desktop from December (fresh FC6 install) and here it is with open windows.

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

Here are the 3 I use. Micrasaft Windies XP (Belfast Edition), Rangers FC, and Sir David Healy! :cheesy:

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

Here's mine. Running WinXP Home.

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

You folks have some fine looking desktops. My desktop sort of changes with my mood, coming from a file I keep full of photographs I trip across on the net--- such as this one.

The second desktop is a little revealing. At the bottom of the screen, you'll see the app I keep handy for dealing with all these icons for the "important" stuff I dare not put into any folder, as well as the shortcuts I can't bear to be without. One touch changes what I see... This is running WinXP SP2 Home Ed. as an O.S. on a desktop PC...

commented: I can see a lot of bugs crawling on your desktop ;) +2
Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

3)MS Solitare
4) MSN Messenger
5) Outlook
6) How much RAM i have lol

Damn , in retrospect i should hae inlcuded a pip of me admining my linux box wih PocketPutty or PocketVNC

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

I have never changed the background, i like to try and keep it simple

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

You wouldn't believe that this desktop is over a year old by just looking at it. I keep the icons hidden and the icon tray clean. I can't sit stand sitting down to a messy computer.

Re: "Show us your desktop" 80 80

Here's my re-skinned and, if I say so myself, rather sexy desktop.

And where do you get those programs that put a weather forecast thingy on your desktop? Could someone drop me a link to a good desktop software site?
