Social media is incredibly difficult to determine a ROI or quantify. It is much more an intrinsic value ... like, any type of good press or bad press, or word of mouth. It is definitely super important, it cannot be overlooked (i.e. some businesses rely exclusively on word of mouth advertising) but it's near impossible to quantify.
In terms of whether it's useful and whether a social media campaign can get quality links and traffic = ABSOLUTELY!!! Without a doubt
