Short answer: the old “PR backlinks” metric people chased a decade ago is no longer a useful target. The public Toolbar PageRank was shut off and stopped being a reliable, visible metric years ago, so chasing a numeric “PR” score is outdated — focus on real editorial endorsements and relevance instead. (searchenginejournal.com)

Google now flags links that are clearly meant to manipulate rankings (paid/sold links, large link-exchange or article campaigns done solely for links). Editorial links earned because your content helps readers are safe; guest posts and social links can be fine when they’re genuinely useful, but large-scale article-for-links campaigns and paid links that pass value violate Google guidance. Use rel="sponsored"/rel="ugc"/rel="nofollow" correctly for paid or user-generated links. (developers.google.com)

If a site shows a drop or you get a manual action, treat link cleanup as a process: audit (Search Console + Ahrefs/SEMrush/Moz), request removals from the linking sites, and only use the Disavow tool when you meet Google’s criteria (manual action or clear large-scale manipulative links). Google’s systems also run automated “link spam” filters that may ignore bad links without a manual penalty, so don’t rush to disavow everything. ()

Practical checklist inspired by posts here (notably , and ): 1) Stop buying links or using PBNs; 2) Run a backlink audit and sort by domain quality, topical relevance, anchor-text patterns; 3) Outreach to remove obvious spammy links, disavow only if needed; 4) Invest in link‑worthy content (data, tools, deep guides) and natural outreach; 5) Keep anchor text diverse and user-focused. E‑E‑A‑T (experience/expertise/authoritativeness/trust) plus topical relevance matter far more than chasing an old PR number. (developers.google.com)

finding good pr backling sites is very hard work...

getting backlinks from high page rank websites are good.

Get backlinks from high PR site is very good. Because PR of the sites from where we want baclinks are very important. Google will not penalize your sites for doing this.

Backlinks are a risky business and can do as much damage as good. I've seen a lot of individuals selling backlinks from .edu and .org domains on portals such as fiverr.com - a PR 7 backlink from a .edu for $5? It's only when you visit the domain that you see it's saturated with links to domains in all industries and backgrounds. Google is smarter than you, believe it or not, and they can/will penalize you for it.

The best way to get healthy backlinks from high PR websites in my opinion is to either establish a partnership with a popular website (hard work) or to offer your experitise to a high PR blog free of charge and write a very good article. You can then use this oopportunity to secure backlinks. These links will of course have to be dofollow.

There are some greyhat method (not quite whitehat and not quite blackhat) as mentioned in this blog post:

Good luck,
Michael

There are different clause by Google on back links strategy like if your site is getting back link from same theme based site which have PR 2 then google will give more priority to your site rather then your site is getting back link from PR 4 site of other niche.

In the present scenario google panda & penguin updates effects our site ranking so if you get backlinks from good and high pr sites so it is useful to your site and you can get good results of your website in google, now google is consider fresh content, quality work.
