How is the holiday season treating ya? :) It really sucks for me :( Traffic is way down.

Seasonal traffic dips are common across niches. This thread reflects that pattern - flagged the slowdown, noted workplace-driven access patterns, and called out how education sites can be hit harder. A short diagnostic before changing strategy helps separate a genuine audience lull from tracking or technical problems.

  • Confirm analytics integrity: verify the tracking snippet is present on all pages, check for duplicate snippets or recent code changes, and compare analytics numbers with web server logs.
  • Segment trends: compare year-over-year and week-over-week, then break down by source/medium, new vs returning visitors, device, and geography.
  • Inspect campaigns and tags: confirm paid/social campaigns and UTM tagging did not pause or get misconfigured.
  • Check indexing and crawl health: review Search Console for crawl errors, sudden drops in impressions, or manual actions.
  • Filter traffic quality: identify referral spam or bot spikes and check for sudden changes in bounce rate or session duration.

Mitigation and planning: the holiday lull is a good window to prepare a “welcome-back” content batch timed for the first full business week after holidays, publish evergreen material, and set up targeted retargeting rather than broad prospecting. Maintain a small always-on presence for core, high-intent queries. Use automated social scheduling to hit local work hours and plan an early-January re-engagement email. Also use downtime for backend maintenance, security patches, and non-critical experiments.

Caveats: avoid making sweeping UX or conversion decisions from low-sample holiday data—A/B tests need volume for reliable results. Expect recovery timing to vary by vertical; education often lags, as observed. Demand patterns can be validated with tools such as Google Trends.

Nothing really amazing about it. :) Online traffic takes a huge dip during the holiday season as most people, in US especially, access the internet from work or universities.

Only net addicts like us stay online during holidays. ;)

You should be back on track by Jan 15.

It has been pretty dead for me (maybe 70% less traffic), especially since I run an education-related site.

Eek ... hopefully it will get better BEFORE the 15th? ;)
