I’ve been seeing more and more businesses jump on TikTok, not just big brands but also smaller shops and freelancers. Some people say it’s a goldmine for organic reach, while others feel it’s just a passing trend that works mainly for entertainment content.

For those of you who’ve tried TikTok marketing, what kind of results have you seen? Did you focus on paid ads, organic content, or a mix of both? And how does it compare to more traditional platforms like Facebook or Instagram in terms of ROI and actual engagement?

While I have never advertised on TikTok (not the right audience for DaniWeb), whether it works or not would be entirely dependent on the product or service you’re trying to sell, who the target audience is, the price point, etc.

Do Facebook and Instagram currently work for you?

For a site like DaniWeb, I’ve had great luck with Google Ads and LinkedIn ads, and terrible luck with Facebook. (For FB, I thought it might be worth it to try some retargeting campaigns combined with focusing heavily on my target demographic, but it was the wrong medium. It just goes to show you that even the target audience isn’t open to your messaging if you’re reaching them out of context or at the wrong time of their day, when their focus is elsewhere.)

It makes sense that it worked for some businesses but not for others. You need your target audience to be on a particular platform. That's how a platform becomes a "good", "great", or "bad" choice for you. You can do everything right on TikTok, but it will be a waste of time if people you are trying to reach hang out on Facebook.
