For : focus on relevance and editorial quality, not raw counts. was right to suggest searching, but narrow the hunt to parenting/kids/TV niches and look for sites with human review. A handful of well-targeted, vetted listings will bring engaged visitors; submitting to hundreds of low-quality directories wastes time and can hurt SEO.

Quality checklist before submitting

  • Is there an editorial review or moderator? (avoid auto-approval farms)
  • Does the directory have a clear category for kids/children/TV or a close niche?
  • Is contact info visible and is there a submission guideline page?
  • Do listings look unique and descriptive (not thin or spammy)?
  • Are links mixed with unrelated categories (red flag)?
  • Track results (use a UTM or shortener) so you can measure referral value.

Use focused search queries to find niche lists and local parenting directories. Example queries to try in Google:

intitle:(directory OR "links") (children OR kids OR "kids tv" OR parenting) "submit"
inurl:directory (kids OR children OR "family entertainment") "submit" -forum -blog

Adapt the keywords for UK/US/local terms and for specific shows, characters, or educational themes.

When you submit, prepare a concise, unique listing and track it. Example template and tracking example:

Title: KidName Guides - safe kids TV, activities & reviews

Short summary (120-160 chars): KidName Guides reviews family TV shows, plus age-appropriate activities and event listings for parents.

Full blurb (2-4 sentences): Mention benefits, audience, and one specific feature. Use natural keywords (no stuffing). Finish with a one-line call to action.

UTM example:
https://example.com/?utm_source=kids-directory&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=directory_sub

As others noted (, , ), link exchanges and bookmarking can supplement directories but avoid reciprocal-heavy schemes. Prioritize editorial niche sites, measure referral traffic, and stop submissions that deliver no clicks or engagement.

I have my site webnewtons.com listed in Y! Directory and I never paid anything to it

Mind telling us the secret of your inclusion, or was it just included without you submitting it ?

I just submitted it as a free site and it was accepted. May be i was given a preference because I had paid a bit to Yahoo Finance section for a small service.(Yes i had submitted from the same id from which i made the payment) ;)

Did you submit to the local yahoo.co.in or directly to dir.yahoo.com ?

And have you seen any benefit in traffic ? from the inclusion ?

Thanks

I don't think there are many free directories left. Everyone is trying to make a buck, especially for SEO links. Will take time to research the ones that are free.

i think link exchange with other website is the best and no cost .

Try a site like craigslist. They have multiple categories that might work for you. Craigslist is a great site and this should help you.
