I'm new to MP3 and was wondering how I get my car MP3 player to recognise which tracks are playing? Is it something to do with tagging?

More than likely, that's what MP3 players in cars would recognize-- the ID3 tags.
Many programs can change/edit these tags. Check this out for more information:
