On the back of the cd drive there is a 4 pin audio connect. It says to connect the cd drive here to the sound card. Why would you need to do this?

Usually, for playing audio CDs...But I doubt it's a must; personally, I don't use it...

If you are using the CD drive to play audio CDs, you need it, particularly if you use audio production software or the Windows Mixer.
