i do have my mp3 player.. when i insert the cable which is the serial port... the computer itself dosnt recognize it... I doubt coz there is "No found new hardware" message shown below with the task bar..

it could be that your usb ports are broken or the drivers have malfunctioned try uninstalling and reninstalling the USB drivers this may solve your problem
yeah usb ports were never designed for memory sticks/mp3's they bend easialy
