I have a eMachines computer, quite new (Vista new), and i am attempting to put in a Western Digital Caviar SE16 hard drive as a secondary. the only problem is when i put it in, my computer doesnt recognize that it is a hard drive. it detects that something is there but not that its a hd. please help

Okay - so a couple of things.

- You know the hard drive works? (Does it spin up).
- You have the correct connector (eg. SATA or IDE)


If so, go into the bios and check that all of the IDE devices are enabled and set to auto-detect. (None say disabled).

Also try plugging in the hard drive to a different socket. Sometimes you can put too many devices off one IDE socket.

Once that's done let us know whether it's been found, as from here it would probably be a windows issue. (yay)
