to install a dvd-rw just take out my old cd-rw and insert the new one and plug in or am i missing something?

Hi,

You may have to check the jumpers on the back of the cd drive. Set it to Master, Slave or Cable Select. This will depend on if you have other drives connected to the same ide port or not.
