This started a couple days ago. The laptop was working fine until then. I dint know what went wrong. I closed it before and the next time I opened it, it wouldn't open. It just stayed the black screen and the lights flickered blue and then it just stopped doing anything. Also to add up to that, the audio wouldn't play. I can't hear anything from it. What's The problem? Now I have a HP laptop. I don't know what's going on with it but if any one who can help please comment.

Original poster described a sudden failure: a black display, blue power LEDs that flickered then died, and no audio. Responses from and pointed to basic power/reset checks — sensible first moves. The following amplifies that advice with additional, non-duplicative diagnostics and safe next steps to pinpoint the fault.

A quick distinction to make: determine whether the system is failing to power/POST (starts but never initializes) or whether the display/audio are separate failures after a successful POST. Useful checks include verifying the mains adapter and DC jack for visible LEDs, heat, or looseness; listening for fan or drive activity and for beep sequences; and testing video output with an external monitor (VGA/HDMI) to rule out a failed panel. Reseating user-accessible memory sticks often fixes contact faults — access the memory bay with antistatic precautions and test one module at a time to identify a bad stick or slot. Note any LED blink or beep patterns and compare them to HP diagnostic codes.

If data is the priority, the hard drive or SSD can be removed and connected to another PC with a SATA-to-USB adapter/enclosure for file recovery before committing to repairs. Opening the case may void warranty; warranty status should guide whether to contact HP support or an authorized service center. If the adapter measures correct voltage, fans/drive do not spin, and memory reseating produces no change, the problem is more likely on the mainboard or power circuitry and will require professional diagnosis.

Cautions: work on hardware only with proper antistatic care and power removed; avoid dismantling units still under active warranty. Recording exact symptoms (LED/blink patterns, whether fans spin, presence or absence of beeps) will speed any service inspection.

remove the battery ,hold down the power button for about 40 seconds , put battery back in and try turning it on again

Remove the battery, plug in power supply, see if it starts.
