I'm in the middle of upgrading my system and bought a new mobo and ram but when I try and boot into my XP disk it just doesn't happen, the CD ROM is on top priority in the bios but when it says "Press any button to boot from CD" all that happens when I do press a button is a blank screen coming up with a flashing "_". I also tried loading XP on the harddrive from an other computer and putting it in the PC but it won't even boot from the Harddrive. Any ideas?

no type of harddrive in you specs

you may have a bad HDD cable or a bad Cd-Rom cable same thing happend to me
i switched cables and it worked
make sure you have th right hrdware sonfigured into your bios and set the bios setting boot up as first device for Cd-Rom then HDD then Floppy .
try all of these
if they dont work try to get a Windows 2000 CD and try to boot from it
