maybe you have onboard video sharing the ram ,and the amount of ram to use for video is set in the bios and maybe the bios got reset to defaults and the default amount setting was lower than a custom setting amount !!
Also maybe you have onboard shared video and you added a pci or agp video card ,tell us more !!

ahh, stupid me, i never thought of that - i just reset my BIOS so it would have changed the amount i have for the gfx
DOH! I thought i had a dud ram
