My mac has done 2 weird things, first the screen went black then words started scrolling by, only thing I coud make out what the word "dumping". this has happened 2x, only way to stop it was to pull the plug, literally. 1st time no apparent damage. 2nd time I noticed my iphots pics are all gone several days after the "dump". I am not sure if they are related or not :( what was the "dump"? Is there any way to retrieve my photos? I chedked both trash files and no sign of them :( :?: :mad:

This is what is called a "Kernel Panic" It can be related to hardware or software. You iPhoto data should be stored in YOUR photos folder.
Macintosh HD/Users/"Username"/Photos
If your system is new enough you may want to run Apple Hardware Test as an early troubleshooting step to see if anything comes up.
