Drivers are installed properly
Windows audio services are turned on
Itunes says that my audio is not configured properly
Have unstalled and reinstalled drivers
Turned on on-board audio in BIOS
In sound and audio properties there are entries for sound recording and MIDI music playback but no option for sound playback. Everything grayed out there.

I am losing it. Please help!!!

To me it sounds like Drivers issue but as you said the drivers are installed properly i d say it ll be worthwhile for you to check for up to date drivers for ur on baord audio. Other than that have you checked whether your audio hardware is working fine and is not disabled in the device manager.

Nothing disabled in D Mangr. Everything else says that this device is working properly. Motherboard has the latest drivers and BIOS. SoundMax is the on-board sound contrlr. This was working fine until ???????.
