Have you tried running chkdsk /r from the service pack cd?

Try running chkdsk /r from the service pack cd

If you feel its due to a hdd error/bad sector then as said above type the foll in cmd 'Chkdsk C: /F /R /X' it'll prompt you for executing the task on system restart, select yes...

Else run the repair utility from your bootable disk, it should repair the 'system' and/or any other missing/corrupt fies..
