reported a startup error named "temp2". was correct to suggest checking for infection and removing the startup trace, but a single cleanup step can leave hidden persistence. The short checklist below shows a safer, more complete approach that removes the file, its auto-start entries and common leftovers without reformatting.
Start by isolating the PC (unplug or disable networking) and booting into a clean environment (Safe Mode or a rescue/boot scanner). Run up-to-date scanners such as Malwarebytes (https://www.malwarebytes.com/) and the Microsoft Safety Scanner (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download). If the infection prevents normal scanning, use Windows Defender Offline or a rescue ISO before Windows loads ().
Locate the actual file and persistence points before deleting anything. Use Sysinternals Process Explorer to find the running process and its full path (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer), then run Autoruns to view and disable all auto-start entries (services, Run keys, scheduled tasks) in one place (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns). Common registry locations to inspect are HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, and check Task Scheduler for unknown tasks. Submit suspicious files to VirusTotal for a second opinion (https://www.virustotal.com/).
After removal, reboot normally, re-scan, and verify no leftover entries remain. Back up the registry before manual edits and avoid untrusted removal tools. If the system still shows startup errors naming a missing file (a broken Run entry), that registry value can be deleted safely once the file is gone — but only after a backup. For persistent or complex infections, a rescue environment or professional recovery may be the safest option.
Hi,
you should first make sure that your pc is clean from all malwares, then run 'msconfig', go to 'startup' tab. Remove temp2 from the list, then restart. the problem is gone.
