my hp tx2500ea entertainment notebook pc display turn black. but the system still running in the background, what can i do?

If you plug your laptop into an external monitor do you get a picture? BTW there is usually a button to switch from internal to external display if your system is running Fn+(random key per manufacture). If you are booting up fresh most laptops will automatically detected the external monitor and the aforementioned key doesn't matter.
