I think he's got a point. If you can see the message it's definitely got power. So definitely check your graphics card. It could be dead just like he said. Nice observation. Still, if you want any help on this we're gonna kind of need to know what you've tried so far, or else we're just going to be taking stabs at the dark. Any more info you can give us on the subject?

I'm not sure how effective HiJackthis is, but you might try running this program: Spybot Search and Destroy on your computer. And also try this one, Regseeker. Just click the names and the links will take you directly to their download sites. They are freeware programs and so I'm not trying to sell you anything or something. They might take care of the problem by themselves. I love the programs because they don't charge anything to use and probably never will. I'll have to look into Hijackthis, but it seems like it's a program used for detectiona nd not for fixing problems like Spybot it. I really think it might help. Give it a shot.

Hi. I have recently used Advanced WindowsCare and Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum 3 to clean the junk inside my computer.
After that, I tried to access a web site and got an error message.
I have visited it 3 days ago, and it was fine.
These type of programs usually do a backup of the things that you delete to clean things up on your computer, you might try finding out where that back up is and have them replace those the files that they destroyed during the process that you think caused the problem.
After you've used the backups try running this program: Spybot Search and Destroy on your computer. And also try this one, Regseeker. Just click the names and the links will take you directly to their download sites. They are freeware programs and so I'm not trying to sell you anything or something. They might take care of the problem by themselves. I love these programs because they don't charge anything to use and probably never will. I've also never had a problem like you described with them. They should do the same thing as windowscare and WinOptimizer and they're free.

I'm going to have to say it's just your graphics card. The only reason I can think for a computer freezing up like that over something is if the graphics card or RAM memory wasn't compatible or enough. Would you mind telling me what graphics card you have in your computer and the RAM? Remember that a lot fo times even if your computer is up to the specified speed and memory limits a lot of graphics cards aren't supported by certain games, you really have to be careful sometimes, especially with games that aren't very popoular like Disney games for example. they often don't have the graphics card support that they need. Just because people don't buy them as much as the others. Just some ideas.

I think you just have a connection problem. There probably isn't anythign really wrong with your computer. The plug between you Monitor and the powers source is probably broken. Try usuing a different monitor and if it works than you'll know. If it still doesn't work than I don't know what to tell you. Call the electric company maybe. Just kidding. Let me know if you've tried a different monitor or what you've tried so far.

My take on it is this, the most recent version of IE (how long has it been since IE 6, how long till IE8?) has just about caught up to the previous FireFox version. Well done Microsoft, but I'll stay with FF for now thanks.
I think I agree with you. Let them work out the kinks in the system before we jump in and embrace IE again. Opera huh? I've heard of that browser, but not actually tried it. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Although three browsers on my CPU might be overhaul I think... Still I'm not quite sure I like firefox as much as IE7.0 if just for the faster imaging service that IE has. Everything loads lighting quick. Maybe I'm just seeing things... Of course, security is still an issue like you guys said. So I guess that quesiton we're asking here is the security worth the lost miliseconds of wait time? lol...

... I would aruge that IE7 is still not a good option to to turn to, as it is one of the most targeted browsers on the market. This is due to the level of integration it has with the OS itself (ie, the more integrated it is, the easier it is to hack, etc).
Yeah you're probably right. Hackers do go for the most used products. Obviously. Still, if you're that paranoid about hackers I'm not sure using the internet at all is a good idea;) Not to be rude or anything. :)

Well, I guess we can all just move onto IE and get in line with everyone else forced to use microsoft products.... You could try searching other peoples forums too. Sometimes they have answers. Good Luck.

I think maybe I can help.
1. Go to internet options and click the connections tab. Then click lan settings and make sure the "Automatically detect settings" is checked. If it is than unclick and then click it again. That way maybe it will recheck when you reload the browser.
2. Reboot the router and the cable modem. Some people jsut never do this because it's always connected. Disconnect everything and then reconnect it. I don't think it's this though because you say that Firefox is working and IE is not. So don't worry too much about this.
3. Once you get IE working be sure to upgrade to Internet Explorer v7.0. It's a whole lot better and runs smoother. I'd reccomend doing it first, but you can't upgrade without using IE.
P.S. Let me know a littlemore about the problem and maybe what you've tried. Than maybe we can help out a little more...

Yeah, I've been experiencing a similar problem. Usually if I refresh the page or push back and then forward it will load, but usually it just hangs there forever and never loads unless I do something. A problem I don't seem to have with IE7.0, which is weird because my Mozilla has always outperformed IE. I'm a little sad that it seems like Firefox might be behind the power curve, I hope they come out with an update soon. Let me know if you figure out the problem. Sorry I can't help.

Okay, I guess this is my question for all you internet gurus out there. Which is better? Firefox or the new Internet Explorer v7.0?
I dont' want anyone posting about the older versions of IE, because I think we wall know they don't compare to firefox, but I must admit I've been impressed with the flexibility and speed of the new updated IE.
For example, the images on my firefox browser load slower than when I load the same site on IE7.0. Furthermore everything seems to be clearer and it seems like a lot of the options that I thought were unique to Firefox have been added to IE. Like the "open a tab" feature and such. So feel free to post your comments.
Which do you think is the better browser?
Firefox or Internet Explorer 7.0?

Well I wouldn't say that AOL is crap considering it's probably helped a lot of internet newbie get connected to the internet. I think it's probably a good building block for anyone who doesn't know a thing about computers and it's cheap. No I don't think it's worth it in the long run though. Eventually I think a human being is going to want to advance to a more streamline and free system like Firefox or the new Internet Explorer v7.0, which to my surprise loads images faster than firefox... why is that?

well, first, thanks for the replies. in fact, the problem almost disappears when i use internet explorer, but still some pages don't work. i tried to uninstall/install firefox but the problem remains. i will follow your advice digitalocksmith. but, still, if someone knows how to help me, i would apreciate. unfortunately i can't explain myself better than this: the problem only happens with pages that don't have the "www" element, for those pages i only receive server not found messages. the max i can do is give more information: i'm using firefox, the latest version, i use the zone alarm pro firewall, i have norton anti virus 2006, working fine and updated. i get the feeling that the problem is somhow related to the zonealarm firewall program control, but, i don't know. thanks for the help anyway
Okay. Here is a few things you can try.
1. Find someone who can load those type of site with firefox and match your internet options with his from the Tool, Options menu.
2. Disable Norton Antivirus, Disable your zone alarm pro firewall, and try disabling the windows firewall. Firewalls can block a lot of internet activity. Don't worry, I'm not going to hack your cpu, you can turnt hem all on if it doesn't work.
3. Definitely try using Internet Explorer on the sites, because a lot of times people build those type of sites to only function with IE and not ff.

I think you can simply change your password and the cookie on his computer will no longer be valid!!
Good luck!!
Welcome to daniweb!!
Absolutely this will work and if not you probably dont' have to worry about it because if he ever want to load up his hotmail account, assuming he has one, he'll have to log out of yours, which means after thatt he won't be able to get back into. No he can't just click your hotmail account in the history thing unless you clicked the "remember me" box when you signed in. If you did click that box than do what this guy said. Just change your password and POOF! Problem solved. Unless he knows how to hack passwords at which point you'd be in a whole big mess of things:)

Just thought I'd mention one book that my brothers and I all used growing up. It's the C for dummies series by Dan Gookin. You can still find them on pretty much any book site. And what I like about them is it keeps the learning curve interesting. Lots of jokes and positive info, and it tries to explain things in layman's terms. I really enjoyed it. So did my brothers.
