If he manages to do what I have said, I am sure he won't need any of that
Are you so sure of this? :-|
Even drugs, counsellers etc. try to do the same things
I agree with you about the counselors, but it is not really about "stuffing self-respect"-- it is generally about identifying psychological issues and lantent problems, setting up a therapy regime to attend to these issues, and moving along step-by-step to free the patient from the mental control these issues\problems present.
But the drugs: no, drugs do not try to "stuff self-respect into you", they are prescribed to modify chemical issues and stabilize one's system in a manner that relieves symptoms of, in my case, Depression and Mania (Bi-Polar).
I wish it was as simple as following what you suggested but, by deep experience, it is not and has nothing to do with recovery from diagnosed, Clinical Depression.
you won't need any counselling / medicines / pep talk.Regards,

This quote is subjective. As all people are individuals so are their problems. Myself, I have been medically tested for depression; I have a chemical inbalance, that is, my body does not prodeuc the correct levels of Seratonin. Seratonin is a chemical produced primarily in the Colon and it regulates autonomous functions such as breathing, primarily. This chemical also regulates the relay of chemical messages between the synapses in our brains. When the Seratonin levels are insufficient (or if our body does not process it correctly, as is my case) Clinical Depression can occur with symptoms including but not limited to: depression, suicidal ideation, suicidal attempts, lack of energy, lack of motivation, the feelings of disembodiement, self-mutilation. I have experienced most of these symptoms in my most darkest times (8-years ago and occasionally still).
It has become a popular movement lately to dismiss the use of medication to treat Depression, yet millions of humans worldwide attest to the benefits it has had in their lives. This along with empirical data shows that medicine as an aspect of treatment for diagnosed Psychiatric illness is both valid and warranted.
The seeking of treatment is up to each individual unless State\Federal imposed in extreme cases. Each individual should expect proper treatment from professionals with full disclosure of side-effects of medicine(s).
I have been on two medicines (Lexapro for Depression and Depakote for Mania) for 8-years …

If you want to learn the language, don't use any IDE but a text editor and command line.
That way you'll learn the language rather than the tool (which is what way too many kids do, and end up utterly lost when they're presented with an environment where they don't have the exact same version of that tool set up exactly the same as at school).
Yes, that seems like sound advice. I wish to the learn the language not simply a single tool. Thanks for your reply.

Hello.
I am new to Java and I am easing into this new language via some basic tutorials.
I am using the Borland 2005 IDE; it is powerful and I quite like it save for that it seems incredibly bulky, hogs all resources, freezes, tries to shut itself down, etc, etc. It is at times a pain to work with, truthfully. Has anyone else used Borland for Java? Have you similar experiences? Perhaps it is my machine (its RAM is not very strong I admit, but still) I just wonder if it is Borland 2005, my machine, or both.
What IDE would you recommend for a Java beginner to start off with?
Thank-you in advance for your input and reply.

Yes, relationship trouble and turmoil is probably a common factor in depression world-wide. I, as I've stated, have had really more than my share and, although it does get easier over time, the emptiness that goes along with "being dumped" goes well beyond just the factors of the female (or male)-- it may go deeper. What I mean, and I will not act as if I have the answers, is that our psychology as humans is highly complex and a great portion of it is sub-conscious; we view others, at times without even knowing it as a "salvation": an answer to boredom, fulfilment of romance, an alleviation of sexual frustration, an answer to our own hidden dreams of what we want. These topics in themselves are not bad but can fashion a mind-set which becomes unhealthy over time. I am guilty of this still even with the lovely and seemingly perfect relationship I currently have. I must ask myself:
Now, If I answer these honestly and even feel I am equally keeping my girlfriend's side in mind (which I feel I do) I can always do better. This will be fruitful for both parties concerned. When both people do this the relationship can be amazing, but that is not to say it …

Well I have a problem I was recently dumped by my girl well is a habit for me already I have been dumped 23 times already because am just plain ugly anyways I need some help or consolation,What is depression?and What to do to get rid of it?because it hurts real bad the same for the tough of suicides any tips and um only 18 any tips or medication to take will help me alot.
This is a very serious matter and may require professional care. When in the depths of depression accompanied by suicidal thoughts or thoughts of hurting yourself (self-mutilation) the idea of "helping one's self" is almost impossible in the light of how you may feel.
I know about this intimately because I haver battled depression and mania for almost 20-years. My first introduction to getting help for this problem was when I reached a desperate end and checked myself into a psychiatric hospital for treatment. This was to this day one of the best things I have ever done for myself. That was about 8 years go, and in the time since, my life has become so much better. This is due to:

What are your five favorite albums of all times? This is a difficult question; for me this list changes yearly (at least) depending on what I am most into at the time, but I will try to determine now my five favorite of all time. My list is not in any particular order, only my five favorite OF ALL TIME:
Hello:
I am new to Java and I am working on a tutorial to familiarize myself with this language. The tutorial is a walk-through in building a basic text editor.
So far the build is going fine, but I have come to a point where I am unsure how to proceed in a certain area. In design view three icons (open file, delete file, help) are displayed, or rather, displayed in an incorrect area I believe. I assume the icons are being loaded by default via the tutorial. The icons instead of being aligned left-top, for example, are left-middle of the application GUI.
This is really only a visual design issue but I wish to correct it. I assumed I could simply drag-and-drop the icons to the preferred area (left-top); it allows this action, seemingly, but the icons remain in the original area, left-middle.
Am I missing something basic? Can I manually set the Y-axis to set the icons left-top?
** using Borland JBuilder
Any help would be appreciated. Thank-you in advance.

OK, I figured this out. Had to drag the entire element that the buttons were placed on, not just the buttons.

How are these psychologists trying to define their food items? My first pick would have been the brownies, but to my mind the word 'cake' implies light and fluffy, and I prefer brownies tough enough you have to actually chew them. Otherwise, what's the point to eating them?
My second choice, the ice cream, doesn't describe me at all.
Yes, brownies must be tough and chewy. The "fluffy" kind are not brownies, at least where I'm from.

This what I used to zip the files.

**UPDATED:
I made a RAR file for you but Daniweb does not allow this type of file upload as an attachment. I do not think TAR files are allowed either. Sorry about this.
Matty D
Tried it wit gzip and unzip. No success
Does it work on your computer? If so, could you please create a tar.gz and post it? ;)

I am sorry for this problem opening the zip file. I am not, though, well-versed in UNIX\ Linux and cannot determine at this point a solution to this problem.

This demonstration was originally proposed to be posted as a Python tutorial but with further inspection it was deemed more of a "how-to" guide, in this case, how-to create simple animation via Tkinter (Tool Kit Interface)
All the necessary elements are included in the attched zip file. This includes:

Thank-you for this tutorial. This is just the thing I have been pondering over lately and this helped to pull the basics of writing and using algos properly into place again. Well-written and concise.

No, it is NOT incorrect.
The flag has nothing to do at all with the KKK, which exists everywhere equally.
It also has little to do with slavery and racism (certainly traditionally) as both existed equally in north and south (and still do).
If the south had more slaves per citizen that was because 1) there was more labour intensive unskilled work to be done and 2) the population density in the north was far higher.
The attitudes of the people towards their slaves were no different (if anything, house slaves in the south were likely better off than many of their opposites in the north). The left claims that the north attacked the south to abolish slavery there, which is completely bogus.
The north had slavery until well after the civil war, the war was purely a war of agression against a group of states that had decided to leave the union (which was their right, as every state has that right).Racism is rife everywhere, and is fueled by the leftist policies of "equal opportunities", "affirmative action", or as we call it here "positive discrimination".
Such policies make that minorities get hired based not on merits but skin colour, causing tension in companies where they are viewed suspiciously (did he earn his right to that job or was he born into it) and especially among the jobless who feel they are passed over by someone else simply because they're white (it happens, …

"The culture is changing, though. I think Daniweb is at a crucial moment, and I'm interested in seeing which way it goes."
In what way is the culture "changing" (from what it "was" to present)?
I have not been here for more than a number of months so I cannot recall the history of Daniweb.
Daniweb, to me provides a positive outlet to not only learn and improve my skill-sets, it is: fun, funny, and at times inspirational. Well, I've set it as my homepage: it's the first thing I see in the morn and the last thing I see before bed, so, I guess that says something about its staying power and positive nature.
I can accept the ads-- who cares? I can handle some of the rude and ego-filled characters that flutter through and flame me. Where do these people not exist, unfortunately? God help them.
I give Daniweb a very high rating, with, of course, the general leeway for healthy improvement as any good project must have.

The amount, size, placement, and etc, of advertisements on the pages is getting a bit obnoxious (one ad that scrolled across the screen was very obnoxious). I understand the need and the desire for advertising, but the pages are starting to look like billboards with some content thrown in instead of the other way around.

Yes, this has happened to me on a number of occasions. I was very surprised. A very agressive ad that comes from screen-left and hangs in the middle (right over what I am reading:mad:).
I will screen shoot it if I ever encounter it again.

Hello everyone. After 15 months without a job I have been offered a trial run in a......flour mill (water wheel included, but they don't use it). If I get the job I'll as close as matters be "Living off the land", something that has become somewhat rare in my country. I'll finally be able to follow my hippy ideals :p . Nice one, hey?

Nice. :) Will you have Internet access? Have you ever read any Thoreau? One of my favorite books related directly to what you speak of:
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
