The speed of the RAM depends on the "MHz" reading after some numbers. The bigger that number the better. You should always install RAM in matching pairs for best results. Please use this site:
http://crucial.com/systemscanner/loader.aspx?Agree=Yes
Crucial will tell you what type of RAM your system currently uses, and the clock speed, "xxxMHz" (xxx being any set of numbers). The bigger the number the faster the RAM will be at processing data. The size (512Mb, 1024Mb/1Gb) is just the capacity of the RAM stick.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1904
That's the site that the top link from google got me too
But it didn't make any sense to me :P
My knowledge is very low on flashing firmware, and i don't like the "Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively" quote.

It seems that my DVD burner is only compatible with +R type DVD's. I swapped with a mate and got a +R one, and it worked fine so it must mean my burner can only handle +R's.
Anyone want 49 DVD - R's :D

Also to the side of the slot itself, it says if it is a PCI-E x16 slot in white text on the motherboard. If you are unsure what it is, post a photo of the slot here as an attachment to your next post.

What is the "Registered to" number? Please don't post it though! Is it the same as the previous registration number for your version of Vista? If they are different then they have installed a different version, as you suspect. But do check to see if the registration numbers under the registration section. Right Click on My Computer --> Properties --> General Tab, to find this information.
Reading your post again, do you have a recovery disc of your previous version of Vista that came with the laptop? Also check on the bottom of your laptop, sometimes they have a Windows sticker there telling the user what the Registration Number of the OS is.
