I have to say this really sounds like you've booted into a different startup disk. Either that or someone's come along and done a fresh install on your system :). I can't see any other explanations for the symptoms you describe. ( I'm assuming you meant OS X 10.3.5 rather …

stuffit deluxe is supposed to be able to decode mime files. Have you tried opening the file in a text editor? That may give some clues as to what's going. You could also try getting the latest version of stuffit expander if you don't have it already.

I like the keychain myself, guess it tales all types :). Two things spring to mind. 1) In the latest version of keychain access on 10.3 there is a keychain repair tool, under the window menu. You can verify and / or repair your keychain if needed. You can also …

The rebuild is usually quite quick, however I repaired a friends TiBook and it took about 4 hours because of all the problems found with overlapping files etc. Diskwarrior did display a message to the effect that there were major problems encountered and I wasn't sure if it had hung …
I'm having real trouble finding ADSL broadband for my mac. AOL only offer dial-up for mac's. BT DO but you have to go through OS9 - I like OSX I want to be using it when I'm online! So does anyone know a ADSL Broadband provider in the UK that …
Hi I recently installed a 160GB Hitachi ata hard drive in my HP. The master drive is a maxtor 80GB. I have already moved a lot of my pictures, videos, and other miscellaneous files to my 160GB slave drive. However, I would like to move all of my installed programs …

Try going into preferences and removing all the saved autofill data. I seem to remember reading that when it builds up it can cause the spinning beachball.

Having taken a quick look at the systrace package it appears to install a mach_kernel.test. It then uses a script to set this to be the boot kernel in nvram. I also see that this tool is curently not maintained and appears to be a 10.2.x kernel, not good if …

Were you able to start up to the GUI when you tried safe mode or did you still end up at the command prompt? What troubleshooting steps have you tried from the command line?

You might start with this Apple Support article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106908 If the symptoms described don't apply to you then there are links to other articles on resolving start up problems. Finally, if none of those work I'd look at something like diskwarrior, otherwise you're probably looking at re-installing OS X

Boot Cd will make a bootable cd using the system installed on your hard disk. It will then ask you what applications you want to copy onto the cd. If you have Norton installed on your hard disk it should be copied, along with it's prefernce files, to the cd. …

Yes, the text you posted is talking pre-OS X, however Bryce 5 ran natively on OS X so you should be able to install an OS X vesion from the CD. I've long since abandoned apps that run in classic mode so can't help there, have you tried looking at …

No doubt this thread will be moved soon, but in the meantime... If memory serves, when you delete a user the old user directory is converted to a disk image and moved to a folder called deleted users. You should be able to mount that disk image by double clicking …
Hello, You might also have a hardware problem. RAM could be dirty/flaky and needing a cleanout, or it could be the hard drive. Let us know, Christian
Dodgy memory could definitely be a problem, although the fact that it's stable once booted makes me think it may be something else. …

First thing I would do is update to OS 10.3.5. I had a similar problem when I plugged my mobile phone into the usb port of my iBook. Updating to the latest OS fixed that. The second thing I would do is make sure you have the latest driver for …
