Look's like I stand corrected - pleasantly surprised you to took the time to make another reply Bob.

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

well bob its a required course so if i make it through you'll never hear from me again until then i need some help and answers

LOL! OK, with an attitude like that, just what CENTURY do you think it's going to be before Bob helps you with an assignment again? ROFLOL! :D

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

that was my point *exactly*!!!

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Pardon me, Bob, but don't you think a pm on that would have been more appropriate?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Dani, is there a way to check the last "x" number of posts, or post for the last "x" amount of days/time/time frame? Thanks

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Opt on who? :D

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

hehehe! yeah, i was being a bit of a jerk! sorry, couldnt resit! ;)

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Man, do do you feel like a woman?!

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

inscissor, bro, u werent bragging - thought i made that perfectly clear:

inscissor - ur welcome; sounds like ur a true Renaissance man, and thats 100% compliment bro.

Renaissance man
n.
A man who has broad intellectual interests and is accomplished in areas of both the arts and the sciences.

ps: oh, care to share? ... used to dabble in poetry myself, Frost is a favorite (btw, in college we read a nine(?) page poem about a king(?) who, convinced the queen(?) was poisoning him, ingested small doses of arsenic to build up his tolerances, to no avial; strike any bells? yeah, i know, but college *was* a looong time ago 4me!), palette knife painting & rock collecting; b4 all is done & said i'd like to try my hand @ writing a meaningful sci-fi work; i like Beethoven, Verdi and ...Shania Twain ;)

Satalite signals are beamed over a narrow area on Earth. They are not transmitted 360 degrees - you couldn't use a dish to transmit them then, adn it would be thhousands of times more expensive.

well, like i said, i know almost zero about signal related tech - thanks for the info. of course, be that as it may, it doesn't negate radio transmissons...

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

inscissor - ur welcome; sounds like ur a true Renaissance man, and thats 100% compliment bro. me, i'm more of a 12th century man myself! ;)

Seti scans the skies for leaked radio waves...the bad news is, we are getting more and more efficent and less and less information is leaving our Solar System...why shouldn't another civillisation?

1) I know next to nothing about signal propogation and related technologies.

2) It is my understanding that transmitted signals are radiated in a 360 degree sphere - and if this is so then the satellite signals are indeed being sent to our interstellar neighbors as well.

3) We can only base our knowledge of technological growth on the one and only model we know of - our own. What if our growth could be termed abnormally rapid when compared to other "technically advanced" civilazations (should the opportunity ever arise)? For that matter, to be fair, we may also be defined as slow under the same comparison - who's to say?

4) Regardless of the window of opportunity, it only takes the interception, and conclusive analysis, of one artificially generated signal not of terrestial progeny to prove the point of extra-terrestial intelligence.

I prefer to use my CPU to help find a cure for cancer.

We all have our causes in life, and I can think of none more worthwhile than pursuit of cancers' cures.

quite favorably bro, but not some1 who was a '90s man (as we would say - "back in the day"). very glad 2c u've got heart as well as brains.

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Why inscissor, i must now view u in a somewhat different light - very kewl! btw, i'm fairly certain your 1st quote is attributable to Benjamin Franklin. i've never compiled a list of my favorite quotes, but, now, i'm thinking i should start doing so...

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

I'm a big fan of Seti@home ( http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ) and was wondering if I created a Seti TechTalk group, if anyone would be willing to join it. ;)

For those who aren't aware, Seti uses our unused CPU time to investigate satellite reads in search for extraterrestrial intelligence. ;) It's funded by The Planetary Society, Sun, Intel, and many other big companies, and has been around for many, many years.

yes, i wud b very interested!

I wonder when we'll come across extraterrestrial intelligence. There's very little intelligence on this planet so we're in desperate need of all that we can get. ;)

ROFLMBO!!! 2funny inscissor!

i was looking for a quote by Carl Sagan that went somethinglike 'Either we are alone, or we're not, either way it's amazing' when i found this quote by Arthur C. Clark: "Sometimes I think we're alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we're not. In either case the idea is quite staggering."

personally i don't see how we can be the lone sentient species of the universe.

My other post on this homework stuff pretty much sums up how I feel.

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

First, yes, I did mean VQS, sorry about that. Second, don't underestimate the importance of both good publishers and good - hopefully, very good - editors. They can both make or break a book depending on their contributions, or lack thereof. The publisher with understanding the needs and outlook of the genre, and, in particular, with viable publicity and effective distribution of the work. And the editor, who, in being the coxswain of the literary world, needs to know the very pulse of the topic as well as understand it's goals in order to give the ever so needed independent perspective necessary to properly nurture a work of any worthwhile significance. Of course, starting with a half-way decent author helps! ;-)

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

LOL! Sorry to have stepped on your toes aeinstein! I'm also picking up FLASH and forgot that I wasn't actually the one who started that thread! ;-)

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Definately take a look at the Flash MX Visual QuickStart guide. I can't remember the author's name, but its a really simple, easy, and informative guide to FMX...I use it :-P

Thanks for the heads-up. Generally I dislike the QVS format, but if I wind-up needing a second basic book I'll definitely take a look at it. :)

LOL, yeah, but i was being 1! ;) thanks anyway :D

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

yes i do, einstein, but all bcs it uses Lingo doesnt preclude it from runnin ActionScript as well!!! :P

btw, thanks for http://www.flashcomponents.net/ ;)

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Thanks Bob & inscissor

Bob, I'll keep the list in mind as I select MX oriented materials. I "had" to make a snap purchase today to have *something* to read while at work, so I picked up Foundations of Flash MX - while skimming through the book on the cashier's line I noticed that it was a "Friends of Ed book!" ;)

inscissor i'll be starting w/producing internal interactive training modules (these would be accessible via intranet, but not necessarily be stand alone webpages), move on to web publishing centric materials such as splash screens, intros and ancillary movies, then move onto more complex endeavors...games? that would be a very interesting goal, and i'm sure if i can weedle company time/spend my own in going in that direction i would use a more appropriate prog as you mentioned. does Director use ActionScript? it seemed to be stressed in a coupla books i browsed prior to selecting the Foundations of Flash MX - which, btw, does seem to be a bit plodish, and definitely oriented towards flash movies rather than what i need initially, but i like that it's taking me right from the basics; look for a review in May or so.

Thanks again guys, much appreciated.

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Thanks for the info Bob. The only Friends of Ed books I could find was one for Photoshop and an Out-of-Print for Livemotion - you wouldn't happen to have an ISBN would you?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Flash 5 or MX is ok, but i'm looking for two different types of books:

1) A Broadstroke howto covering beginner to whatever, but not necessarily an indepth reference. This is to hopefully help me get up to speed ASAP.

2) A detail oriented in-depth reference, such as maybe Flash 5 (MX) Bible?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

well, that's pretty wide open - where do your interest lie - web publishing? application developement (ie, through a Integrated Development Environment)? application programming (ie code production)? there's ppl here far more knowledgeable in these areas than i that will undoubably answer ur question, but a little more direction would be helpful.

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Tough to make a single choice!

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Might be easier to simply reinstall IE.

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

i see u mentioned restoring defaults, but what the more likely resolution of reseting web settings?

try right clickng a file link, notate the file name, then left click to have IE download the file & search sys for filename to find where it goes - at least at this point u should know where the files are being saved even tho that doesnt actually solve the prob

if u ftp thru IE & download a file does the same thing happen?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

ok, i'm guessing the above hasn't worked for you - have you checked both your Internet and Intranet security settings?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

since this just started happening, rather than me attempting to track down a possibly non-existent solution, how about restoring defaults (IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced/ click "Restore Defaults" & click "Apply") &/or resetting web settings (IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Programs/ click Reset Web Settings, then uncheck "Reset Homepage" & click "OK"), and let me know if that helps?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

what ie ver?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

to my understanding XHTML was implemented to bridge the HTML & XML paradigms, and as such was not intended to be an evolving "language."

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Bookmarked! doesnt look like some cult-centered blood & zombie saturated Soul killer - plus Excaliber... :)

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

TWENTY-SIX HRS!!!! :o musta been intense!

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

ok, little story: my twin bro & i were sharing an apartment & 1 eve i started working on a prog (drawing a garage for my folks house in autocadLT 1.0). my bro eventually went off to his room but then got up 2 use the facilities. ok, but then he started making coffee & i asked what in the world he was doing - he was getting ready for work! evidently i hadnt budged from the sys for over 10 hrs & it seemed like *maybe* an hr had gone by 2 me!!!! weirdest personal pc experience of my life.

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

when i'm not using someone else's i'm using mine ;)

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague
