Italy - just about anywhere
Ireland - mostly just the countryside with MAYBE a sprinkling of their larger towns
France - Eiffel Tower & The Louvre
Germany - one word: autobahn; ok, 2 words: autobahn + Porsche ;-)
Russia - St. Petersburg: the city & especially the cathedral, but only IN THE SUMMER!
Luxemberg - isn't it the smallest country in the world? gotta walk through that! ;-)

Nevertheless, still quite entertaining regardless.

thanks, i had fun writing it :lol:

never hurts to check the basics... is your incoming server name set correctly? email virus protection s/w has a habit of "forgetting" to reset props back up properly after doing a scan via loop-back settings

some sites use IE specific code

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

Nope, sorry, that one's a no go. It was set to around 1800mb and had virtually nothing in it. I enlarged it to a bit over 2 gigs and still nothing.

i hope this link helps

2G!!! :!: i keep mine @ 1 MB! :!: correct me if i'm wrong here, but large cache for a dial-up is good, but i see no sense in having such a large cache for a dsl/cm connection; just soo many more files to harbor corruption imho.

at a blind swipe u may want to reduce that # somewhat, or i'd honestly like to be put straight if i'm off the mark on this one

itmt i'll carve some time out Mon/Tue (8-12/8-13-03) & c what i can come up w/.

do your ip's actually start with 100. or is that a typo? does PC1 have a firewall that disallow ICMP?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

it could be spyware, which may also be accessible via add/remove programs; otherwise it might be a registry entry. be very, Very, VERY careful mucking around with the registry.

pls post the error msg verbatim

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

sounds like a cookie or scripting issue. you might want to try the following, and then see if the problem continues after that:

1) launch IE, go to Tools & then Internet Options;
2) on the General tab (which it launches to) delete cookies and temporary internet files, including all offline content;
3) go to Advanced tab, lower right click on restore defaults and click Apply;
4) go to Programs tab, middle left click on reset web setting, (recommend you deslect reset homepage);
5) go to Privacy tab (if present), if Default Levels button is active click it;
6) go to Security tab and for each zone set levels to Default Levels if said button is active; click OK.

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

just saw your other win98/2000 post regarding your network probs - in the future please try to maintaine posts on the same thread where warranted, such as in this case. anyhow... i still need to know what wheter your running static or DHCP on the private side of your network (regardless of whether or not the D-Link is connected to the internet). I simple test is ping the loop back ip of 127.0.0.1; if you can't ping that let us know. if can, and you're set up for DHCP, do a release & a renew (via winipcfg), make sure you're releasing (not release all, just release when on your nic) to 0.0.0.0 and then renewing to an appropriate ip address (ie, 192.168.100.21, etc; not a 169.x ip). post how this helps/doesn't help or if you need clarification on the instructs to this point.

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

what are the specific about your network (equipment, static/DHCP, protocols).

what, if any firewall software program(s) are you running on the win98 sys? btw, hopefully you are NOT running multiple s/w firewalls...

have you ensured that both systems are in the same workgroup, have unique computer names & unique ip addresses (on your private network)?

Dear Dani,

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad (since I haven't seen you on the board for roughly a week I am assuming that he has passed and that you are sitting Shiva) and, of course, I offer you and your family heartfelt condolences on your tragic loss.

I lost my Pops over three years ago and there are still times I miss him so much it's nearly a physical pain. But, then again, time has washed away most all of the pain and I am able to rejoice in his life all of the good times we had (and some of the bad, but that's ok!) and all of the knowledge and character he was able to pass on to me. I hope you can find some comfort in that one day this natural progression will work it's way on you as well, and that with the passage of time far more rememberances will bring laughter to your voice than tears to your eyes.

In the mean time I would like to offer you a story I found while searching the web for a prayer:

A Jewish Storyabout death
Rabbi Meir had two young sons each of whom he loved dearly. Both of them died on the same day; it was the Sabbath and the Rabbi was at the house of learning teaching his people about their faith. On his return his wife greeted him with a …

I'd like to apologize to everyone at TTF for being so scarce lately. It's been a VERY busy semester for me with a tragic ending.

Tuesday night, at 1 am, my dad suffered a heart attack as well as from an aneurysm in his brain which landed him in a coma and braindead. This was all completely unexpected and sudden, as he was on his way into bed. The DNR papers were signed this afternoon after he was given less than a day to live.

I'm going to play around here on TechTalk for awhile to take my mind off of stuff. Who knows where I'll be the next week or so.

I wish all mommy's out there a Happy Mother's Day in advance. Take care.

- Dani

I am very, very sorry to hear of your Dad's condition. Please know that my heartfelt prayers are with him, yourself and the rest of your family and friends.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

Our Father which art in heaven, Halllowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

Peace Be with You, All

can u post a specific model # for the nic (ie, 3C589D-TP)? have u tried to re-install the drivers?

to expand on some of what Bob said, where's the beef? I think u can do a lot w/the site and definitely a nice jumping off point, but w/some researching, creativity and thought u can easily take it to the next level. as much as i liked "your" bandwithplace link (that is until i checked the url, the separate window & the completely different layout & realized it was just ANOTHER link OUT of ur www), i was disappointed by ur cablemodembasics page - i was expecting some how-to's or about's when i clicked the link, and then on the page loading figured the pic links would bring me to some review/usage info... not! i think having links to other sites, especially, as Bob points out, that launch to their own window, is a double edged sword at best - ur offering up access to info (hopefully WANTED info), but ur taking traffic out of ur www & putting it in others (hope u've got some type of income arrangement from that!). if ur looking to generate ad income ur going to want to keep the traffic on ur site. by and large I think it's a really good 1st step for YOUR www; it need's work to be put on my, and i dare say others', favorites/bookmarks lists. Good Luck tho!

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

unable to launch link :(

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

just to reconfirm what u've said, is that u can access ur url internally via "http://192.168.1.20:200/index.asp," but when you access the site externally via "http://(ur.ip.addy.here)//index.asp" it is inaccessible?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

1st let me recommend u either learn how to use the help files from windows (which by-and-large i find to be infuriating) or purchase a book on WinME; alternatively you may want to check w/ur locale pub library & see if they have any for loan. why? because WinME does have a rather easily accessible DOS console and if u can't find it you need some real basic guidance (like we ALL did on first starting out!).

2nd, just what's wrong w/ur connection?
how does it drop out - after x minutes of use, or if u leave ur pc/dsl modem of for x amount of time? only when running a particular program? a particular time of day/evening? is it slow?

btw, are u using any file sharing programs, such as Kazaa or WinMX?

much like a hurdler running a race a trouble shooter has to first set a goal - either winning a race or identifying a problem to be solved, and then set about tackling the obstruction(s) to that goal one issue, or hurdle, at a time.

so let's 1st identify exactly what problems you're having b4 we set out to resolve the issues, ok?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

LOL! True, but in a college age pup I would think not! :D

Maybe you can make the word "Smilies" in the posting option "Disable Smilies in this post" a hyper link to list of smiley faces recognized by ur bbcode?

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

whoops!!!! i ASSuMEd that since the logo was prefixed with a forum name that i'd go to the homepage of that forum rather than the site's homepage - sorry!

on another note any reason way smileys arent selectable anymore (& have to be hand "coded")? :(

aeinstein 79 Team Member - aka kaynine Team Colleague

think it's pretty nice - might put a more obvious Homepage link somewhere other than only at the very bottom of the page. also, i notice that there's plenty of space to the left of the "Advanced Search" link to place a "Register"/"New Member?"/"New Member Registration" etc. link on the banner...jfft
