Many systems come from the manufacturer with no Administrator password set, so, depending on your version, if you hit control, alternate, and delete at the same time twice, then hit enter it should let you right in. Then you can, in most cases, alter user accounts where you have forgotten …

If it came in as an unsolicited e-mail, I wouldn't trust it. In fact, you should download and run both AVG 8.0 free and Windows defender (both free and trusted) and run scans, because you may already be infected.
i certainly hope you've figured out how to fix this by now, but if not: hold ctrl+option+apple+8 and you'll be back to normal.
That was exactly what I was looking for, fixed an annoying problem in two seconds, thanks!

I'm sorry, did you power off the system and turn it back on, did you reboot, or did the blue screen happen spontaneously? One of the things I've found is that lots of these blue screens are bogus, just designed to scare you. If you hit the space bar and …

Assuming you have XP, It might be userinit.exe...if you copy this file from another computer with XP, you should be able to log on...then, I'd run malwarebytes antimalware and see what comes up.

I'm pretty sure Windows 95 was available with USB support, the problem would be finding the drivers from the manufacturer of the flash drive, and that's true even with Windows 98 SE...I agree with MosaicFuneral. Find a computer repair place in the yellow pages and see if you can buy …

I've found that Combofix eliminates the autoplay feature in XP. I've seached for a way to re-enable it, but all anyone ever says is, "You're better off without it." I can understand that, given the potential for infection there, but I would still like to know if there is a …

Try this: http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/GoblinX-Mini-38279.shtml It can easily be installed on a flash drive, just make sure you have "boot to USB device" enabled in the bios. As to a repair install, if the PC didn't come with a recovery disk and has no recovery partition, you can usually take an XP …

When Windows comes up, try hitting the "Windows" key and the "R" key at the same time. This should bring up the "run" window. If it does, type "explorer" and hit the "enter" key. Hopefully, your desktop will reappear and we can troubleshoot further from that point.

It might not be a good idea to go messing around the system32 files...especially if you're unsure of how to make and undo changes. Rather, I'd boot into safe mode, copy all data to DVD or flash drive, and reinstall windows. Your login screen won't be flashy, but it will …

I like Vista Business...it doesn't have all of the toys, but you can join a domain and such. Before you upgrade, though, you should consider that Vista is more of a resource hog than XP...if youo don't have at least a gig of RAM and a dual core processor, you …

Try removing the HP application from the control panel and see if the problem goes away. For XP go to Start>control panel>Add/Remove programs, for Vista, go to Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features>uninstall a program. If not, scan your computer for spyware. Just a suggestion, hope it helps!

SDFix and Smitfaudfix should remove the threat for you. You might also run the BHO demon...it can help you identify scary files and where they are located so you can remove them through DOS if you have to.

I just recently discovered a new bug...well, new to me, anyway. While running the usual scans in safe mode (AdAware, Spybot, SmitfraudFix, HijackThis, etc.) on a customer's computer, it suddenly blue-screened on me, then went to a Windows XP splash page, then another blue screen, and so on in what …

I recommend AVG free 8.0 in conjunction with Windows Defender (comes with Vista, but you can download it free for XP) and have never had a problem. 8.0 installs easily so you don't have to uninstall 7.5 first, and it updates much more completely and smoothly. It's a great program …

The HijackThis log can be useful, but I like to use the BHO demon as a way to help me identify what some of the things in the log are. Usually, you can find out pretty easily what BHOs are good and which ones should be removed with HijackThis. Here's …

Osiris, many OEM computers have a default administrator account you can access for which the password is left "blank." You could try hitting ctrl+Alt+Delete and logging in that way so you can access Windows.

I have to agree, it's most likely a hardware issue...did you run the CD that came with the wireless device before you installed it, after, or just let Windows try and use generic drivers? Is it USB, PCMCIA? If it were a desktop, I'd say just start pulling out cards …

Hello, everyone. I am running Windows XP Proffesional SP2 with one password-protected user/administrator account and two non-password-protected limited user accounts. Windows boots up and runs normally, but after logging out of or switching to an account, Windows will occassionally ask for non-existant passwords on the two unprotected accounts and says …
