Provide an incentive for people to like your page e.g. by offering discounts, competition entries, Facebook only benefits. Also, adding links like you have to your opening post won't get you very far. See Google's Penguin updates for a start.

I'm not registered on Google Help but in response to this: "there STILL has been no decrease in bounce rate according to Google Analytics, either globally or when I segment by country and look just at the US." I might have the wrong end of the stick as my head …

Hello, There are a few threads on here listing free submission sites, but all sites I've tried so far only allow anchor text links with a paid upgrade - do any good press release sites exist where targeted link text can be added for free, and are also followed? Thanks.

You could use the CSS background-repeat property: http://www.w3schools.com/css/pr_background-repeat.asp

If you have friends that use your sites regularly, ask them to install the Alexa toolbar; that'll help improve your ranking. And install it yourself if you haven't already.

Daniweb has made the major media in the UK as one of the big losers, I reckon it's almost certain Google will have noticed you too: www guardian co uk/technology/blog/2011/feb/28/google-changes-sites-affected I imagine Google will refine the algorithm over the next few weeks so hopefully you'll see much of your traffic …

If you pay someone to do it you could write up a contract that ensures copyright stays with yourself, there are people who will be happy to do that for a one-off fee. If you do it yourself and post it, there might be people who'll tell you whether it's …

I asked an SEO expert whether our own website or a popular blogging host would be best for a blog, and he said definitely our own website. I didn't ask why but if it's a blog that interests people it'll act like link-bait, so the links will be coming directly …

Say I rewrite a URL from [ICODE]www.exampleurl.com/article.asp?id=100&title=bacon-rashers[/ICODE] to [ICODE]www.exampleurl.com/100/bacon-rashers[/ICODE] will search engines try to crawl the folders '100' and 'bacon-rashers', which of course don't actually exist? Have Google or anyone written about this? I've done a quick search and can't find anything...

As far as I'm aware there is no major issue submitting the same article to multiple directories - this is what some large SEO companies do.

Around 15% of users to a site I help manage still use IE6 or older, so I wouldn't say you should stop optimising for older browsers just because Facebook and YouTube do. It depends on your user base and whether you feel the extra time to optimise is worth losing …

Is it best (or even possible) to replace spaces using URL Rewrite or using ASP/ASP.net before the URL is sent? If it's the former, can it be done with a wizard within IIS? Also, I will need to replace capital letters and accented characters with an equivalent e.g. é with …

I'm trying to create an image gallery/menu with text info. I used CSS to create a gallery so that when you roll over one of the thumbnails, a larger image and new text displays above (basically by changing the content from 1px wide and high, so it's 'invisible', to 479px …

You're probably not supposed to embed that player are you? I don't think you'd be able to embed it directly from their site whatever you tried.

www.cssplay.co.uk www.csszengarden.com shows what can be achieved with the same content and different CSS. The vintage cinema layout is one of my favourites. Failing that, search on Google for something like "best css sites/layouts" and you're bound to find a blog you like the look of.

I don't understand your first question. I thought you meant the page jumps down to the images when you click 'Go' but that doesn't happen for me. If you did mean than it would be using 'a name' anchor tags, but I don't see any in the code. Twitter are …

I love the SNES...the likes of Terranigma, SMW, Tetris Attack, Super Probotector (Contra Spirits), Secret of Mana, Yoshi's Island...I could go on forever. I don't play games as often as I'd like to these days, hardly ever infact. If I do it's just multiplayer with friends; the new Timesplitters or …

It could be to do with your mix of absolute and relative positioning; try changing the absolute ones to relative and see what happens. The footer should move to the bottom and then you might have to tweak some of the other positioning to get everything else right.

Does anyone know how to create an image that scrolls with the page, much like this menu on the following link? http://www.myvue.com/cinemas/index.asp?SessionID=DF03F98209A546809563E5FF5A6B5D4F&ci=52 It's easy enough to do one positioned from the left of the browser window, but the solution I need is where all the content is centered, as on …

With all the genres and sub-genres and made-up genres these days I don't really know what I listen to. So I'll just say rock, usually melodic. The likes of Superdrag, James, Feeder, British Sea Power, The Relict, Fountains of Wayne, Teenage Fanclub, Sugar, Symposium, Wilco, Weezer, Melys, The Shins, Ambershades, …

I don't know much about foreign people studying in the UK, but have you tried checking the university websites? For example, my local university has this section http://www.staffs.ac.uk/overseas/index.php with links on the left containing information for prospective overseas students. Most universities in the UK have the town/city followed by .ac.uk …

I think it's best to build up a bit of feedback buying before you start selling stuff on ebay anyway. I don't bid for things when the seller has 0 feedback.
