Basically I got it and it's hijacked chrome to not let me visit any webpages and it'll give me an "Internet Explorer Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!" in my chrome browser which is laughable cause I'm not using IE. At the same time I can use firefox though.

However whenever I try to open any file, be it a folder, executable, anything at all, it will give me a popup warning with the title "Security-Warning" that says "Application cannot be executed. The file xyz.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus softnware now?" and if you click no the popup will go away but it still won't open the item you wanted to open. Also bottom right corner has a ton of fake "Infiltration Alert - Virus Attack" signs which also tries to make me install fake anti-virus.

Would really appreciate if you guys could help me out with this.

I ended up just taking it out and blowing the dust out and then the computer recognized it again.

@4th&3wood - the problem was the computer wouldn't even recognize it had any hardware in that category.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Basically I've been using my CD/DVD drive about every other week to burn a CD or two of my music. A couple of days I was going to burn another CD in Windows Media Player but it said that there was no Burning Device.

I check on the "My Computer" screen and it doesn't display it there like it usually does. I check my system specs and now see the entire computer doesn't recognize it having a CD/DVD drive at all.

I tried putting some games in or an audio CD and they start spinning, but the computer never starts them up or even recognizes that a new disk was placed into the drive.

Any suggestions on what went wrong here? I haven't installed any new software recently although I did have to get rid of a nastly little virus. Malwarebyte got rid of that easily though and I honestly doubt a Trojan would try to target my CD drive of all things.

Any advice you could give me on how to fix this problem? Would installing new drivers help since the hardware isn't even recognized? Would unplugging it and plugging it back in help? Do I need to scrap this one and get a new one?

Hoping to get some replies to this soon as I'm getting a bit bored of hearing the same tunes in my car.

Thanks,
Niklas

Basically Vista has been working fine for the past 5 months and recognizing my disk drive and letting me burn CD's. Now all of a sudden it doesn't even recognize that there is a CD drive and thus I cannot run any of my games or burn any new CD's.

I haven't updated the firmware of anything when it happened so that isn't the problem, nor have I installed any new software. Also the drive still opens and closes and I can hear it spinning when I put something in.

Any advice on how to get it to show up. I'm going to try to boot into Windows XP and see if it recognizes the drive to see if its a hardware problem or not.

Could someone please help me I just woke up and I had about 75 of those pop ups that I had to go through.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Basically IE8 beta now has a toolbar that I can't get rid of called "Internet Service." When I tried uninstalling the program via the control panel I got a message that said I needed to restart my computer to continue before I could uninstall it. And then nada, it's still there.

I'm also getting random pop-ups during my non-internet use which say that a virus has been detected with a clearly faked MS Defender Logo, that says I should go somewhere to download a program that can "fix" it. Clearly I'm not gonna get duped any farther down the hole so I haven't clicked on those.

Also getting Windows Alert boxes on my Taskbar which says my computer is operating at half speed and internet at 39% blablabla with another clearly faked logo.

Could someone please help me get rid of this virus(es). If it helps any I remember installing an Active X plugin in order to watch a video. I remember having had a similar problem with a plugin before but I checked the site on Google to check if there were any results that warned it was a virus and I found none.

do you have your router secured with WEP or WPA?

WPA is more secure WEP can be hacked in less than a minute anymore.

I think Port 1863 is used by MSN.

My family actualy prefers to keep our network open seeing as how WEP is too easily cracked anyway and it's less of hassle seeing how we use a multiple of devices to connect to it, some of which don't have the option to use WPE as an internet connection.

I don't use MSN, although windows does have it as it came with the box. Is there a way to sniff if someone else may be using my connection?

If what ever it is has done damage it may be better to do a fresh reinstall of your OS.

Alright thanks a lot. Was worried because I had 7 svchosts running at the same time (still do) as well as having a certain IP address outside of my local network connected to my computer everytime I enabled the wifi connection. (netstat -n). Could it be that it's just a server of some program that is searching for updates (ie: virus definitions, updates, ect.) or is this something I should be looking at. I believe the port it's entering through is 1863

EDIT: Sorry not to be a pain but I ran Rouge Spy and it found nothing. Since I hadn't been connected to the internet for a while I updated Norton's virus definitions and di a scan. Norton found 4 instances of Trojan.ByteVerify as well as Spyware.ArdaKey. It said it supposably deleted them but is there anyway to be sure?

Are you using a virus detector or do you have it disabled?

If you have one is it updated?

If you have Norton dump it and get McAfee.

do you have SP2 installed on the system?

I'm using AVG but I haven't really seen it block virus' from getting on my system. It's just as good at cleaning them up once they're already on. I have a "shared" copy of Norton but I think that was the root of the problem to begin with. And yes I have special pack 2

If it helps, I have a vista CD that I got through the Redemption program from Newegg when I bought XP. I wanted to install it on my second Hard drive so but keep the Windows XP files on my first one. I would just have all the apps and media in a shared my docs folder on the first one. But that's beside the point. I'm just saying if need be I can go into the Harddrive and get rid of some of the stuff without having it execute if need be.

You havn't mentioned hard drives but with the mobo you're going with i'd recommend a dual sata raid 1 configuration with read ahead and write back caching enabled,or a raid 0+1 if you can afford 4 HD's

A sata raid 1 with read ahead and write back should increase speeds from around 120mbt/s to around 180 or so and the HD is usually the worst bottleneck

Not really looking into getting into the nitty gritty specifics of Raid, mine has a sub-par controller built into it that is fine for the uses I'm thinking about.

Getting a Seagate Barracuda 320 GB HD and probably about a 100 GB HD for mainly backup purposes of important files just in case one of the HD's gets drained (nightmate #2 son drops magnet on computer). Not to say I won't utilize it.

Any other suggestions on HD's, again not really wanting to go into raid stuff.

I was looking to buy this:
EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - $250.00

Recently however I have seen that people have been having trouble with the Bios (Bio nightmare from my EvGa Gfx card last year :mad:) and am having second thoughts.

Can anyone suggest a mobo that has similair or better features for around the same price? Please don't say I can get "this for this much cheaper and use extra cash to buy this". As I'm set on spending that amount, for better or worse. Currently I think I might buy an Extreme processor but I'm having second thoughts if a Dual Core might not be just as good with prices dropping so better would be for both, which most have anyway.

Mainly this is going to be for gaminig and multi-tasking, but there;s a catch. It has to be quiet. My entire computer is built around components with efficient cooling and almost inaudible noise output. Being SLI supported is a + but not necesary. More PCI-E ports is definetly a good thing as well (party why I liked the one I posted).

Thanks guys.

i dont know if these sites ship to the us (im from the uk)
but i love to get my componets from www.novatech.com

my newest box is here: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?BB-X2MDB

they have components or you can do what i did which is buy a "barebones" kit - RAM, CPU, Case all assembled for you

An AMD X2 4200 DualCore with 1gb of 667mhz DDR2 and an nForce Hyper 570 mobo (2x PCIx 16 slots) costs less than £386.57 there inc. VAT

Woops, I already ordered the case last night from directron. Got a sweet deal for it too. $261.00 no tax and free 7 day shipping. Cheaper than newegg so I saved a few bucks. Hope nothing is damaged.

The Mobo [you] suggested doesn't really suit my fancy as mine has the 3 x16 PCI-E ports that I want. Any other suggestions welcome though, make sure they support Intel Dual Core and Extreme. Procesor is going to be one of the last things I buy seing as how they are always dropping in price over time, so I can think about this one for a bit. Changed the Power Supply to something that actualy fits into my case.

Can anyone comment on the noise levels for the Extreme 2 processors from Intel? I want my system to be silent if not fairly quiet.

So far I found these parts to suit my needs perfectly silent but powerful:

This is over a year old now :eek:

Anyways I'm actualy completely redesigning my system now, and have a substantialy higher budget now. Going to start from scractch.

I never made the power supply really fit. I cut off part of the metal that kept the power uspply inside the case, so although the Power Supply is in the case about 1/4 inch still sticks out in the bank which is fine since I don't look there anyway.

For anyone still reading this. Stick to around $85.0-$100 Power Supplies that have reviews based on Cooling and Noise Level. Because anything in that price range from a mainstream brand won't have faulty power surges or anything of the sort.

Well I have this website about a month blog I make concerning a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Call me addicted or what for making a blog of my playing expirience and achievements, but I am asking here due to my WebPages techinical details. It's hosted on geocities so although I would like to add frames (and have already scripted them) I can't because Geocities doesn't support frames.

My Blog WebPage:

Anyways as you can tell from my WebPage my HTML is fairly basic and requires no special tags whatsoever. I'm thinking of adding tables, which I know how to do but is just a hassle as I can't picture in my head exactly where everything goes and have to preview it dozens of times.
Alright, finally, my question is HOW DO I SCRIPT A COMMENT BOX/GUSTBOOK?

I want to add a comment box on the Webpage instead of having my WebPage link to an external site. However most open source guestbooks I have found all use the external web site way. How do I script a comment box of my own, using what tags, and a brief description of their special properties. The main problem I am forecasting is how to have the comment box be updated on the WebPage for everyone to see every time someone enters a message. I'm guessing there is some way to embed the application/script into the WebPage directly, and also that I'm going to need to use …

Wow thank you so much. Though the fractions had to be implemented somehow in C++, just didn't know I had to declare the operation that was supposed to be distributed into them.

Thanks again, you guys always seems to be there when I need something solved fast and reliably.

EDIT 2: Woops found a small error in one of the formulas. When trying to find the radius of a circle if I have the area, I enter the area / PI but then I have to get the square root of the number that is output. What character is used to display the square root function in C++?

Alright well this is supposed to be a basic Geometry calculator that uses set formulas to identify the "chosen" property of the figure by just pluggin in #'s that are used in that formula.

I have to admit I'm not expirienced at all in C++ and probably made a ton of mistakes (my compiler agrees). I checked the code and it seems like for all operators that I input that are more than 2 digits that my compiler gives me a "multi-character character constant" error. I also have an = # of "comparison" errors meaning there is something that I am doing wrong every single time.

For one, I'm not even sure if your allowed to use parenthesis in C++ coding, and if so how do I implement them? Say we have the formula for the Volume of a sphere (4/3 pie Radius(cubed)) How do I implement that. Since you can't insert fractions (can you) how would I put them in, as decimals? If I put them in my compiler gives me an error, does this mean I need to give my declared variables a special characteristic (ie: short, long ect.)?

Thanks for your help guys, please don't just edit my code, also explain why if you could so I don't make the same mistake next time.

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

int main()
{
    float area;
    float base;
    float Sbase; //Small Base (Trapezoid Formula)
    float Bbase; // Big Base (Trapezoid Formula)
    float Wbase; //Width of …

I am trying to make my program more easy to use and not have computer illiterate people struggle to install my program. My question is can a C++ program install ITSELF into another directory upon execution.
I want the program to run, but I also want it to make a backup copy of the same program in a certain directory.

Thanks a lot guys. If you guys want me to post my soure code of my current program I will, but I think this is a self explanatory question and doesn't relate to the context of the sour code.

Thanks a lot for taking the effort to respond.

This is an older version of a calculator that I made when I was just srated. Look around and find some snippets you might like to see how they work or add to yours. For example use of the if statement for displaying an error message, and having a repeating loop asking if a person wants to use the calculator again.

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

int main()
{

float num1;
    float num2;
    char op;
    float result;
    char again = 'y';
    while (again == 'y')

    {
    cin >> num1;
    cout <<"\n num 1 = " << num1 << endl;
    cin >> num2;
    cout << "\n num2 = " << num2 << endl;

    cout <<"\n Now enter an operating symbol (+ - / *)"<<endl;
    cout <<"\n You can also enter 2 to sqaure a # and 3 to cube a #" <<endl;
    cin >> op;

    if (op == '+')
        cout << "\n num1 + num2 = " << num1 + num2 << endl;
    if (op == '-')
        cout <<"\n num1 - num2 = " << num1 - num2 << endl;
    if (op == '*')
        cout <<"\n num1 * num2 = " << num1 * num2 << endl;
    if (op == '/')
        cout << " \n num1 / num2 = " << num1 / num2 << endl;
    if (op == '2')

        cout <<" \n num1 to the third power = " …

Please note before reading this, this is a keylogger, no its not used for malicious purposes as it only runs with the programing prompt open and stops as soon as the program is exited. Just trying to show my computer teachers something, because he's an idiot who gets his lessons straight out of a text book :confused: I tried it up to the non-working line and the file worked fine except it would hog the processor, and when compiled would stop working, so there goes that solution lol. Anyways what am I doing wrong in that line. I checked at least 15 times to make sure I nested everything right but everything seems to be in check.

My problem however is the line highlighted in bold. Dev C++ 4.9.8.0 gives me a "[WARNING] comparison"

I know that those 2 webservers are in the trusted download zone.
For some reason none of my firewalls will allow me to download from that site (which I do really trust, acquaintance is the admin) so I have to add it to the trusted list for it to work.

Graphic Drivers screwed up for some reason. No idea if they were infected or not but I cleared them out with Driver Cleaner Pro and installed the latest drivers from evga and everything works, might I say, better than before!

Running all anti-virus programs I have one more time to make sure I didn't miss anything and then I'll create a system restore point.

Thanks a lot for your helps guys, you saved my arse big time.

Thanks a lot for the tips guys. There is nothing noticably wrong anymore but I would stil like to verify this through the log as I might still be keylogged or have other spyware. This has various financil information (:confused: ) so I have double checked everything so far and will check again to make sure no fradulent transactions are occuring (viewed over safe network at my company).

Here is my AntiVir Log. It didn't find ANYTHING that it thoguht was a virus I did however get 30 WARNINGS. Near the bottom it lists a few files saying it can't read them. Does this mean this user account doesn't have enough privelages for the software to view them? And if so should I look into making sure those files aren't infected?

Well I have recently had a lot of pop-ups of legal/illegal medications, phone sex hot lines, and various other things having to do with porn. My son uses this computer the most (I use my laptop) so I'm assuming he's getting to that age where starts to masterbate, but I can't comply with that if he gets this computer all messed up.

I will be doing something and all of a sudden whatever window I have open minimizes and I see a pop up come. Then I have something that tells me I have a security threat in my system and tells me where to find some anti-spyware tools for it. I clicked on it and did a google search to make sure it wasn't a virus as well. The first page was overall positive so it looked legitimate. I downloaded it and it's just gotten worse.

Here is the page that opens every time I use Internet Explorer:

[IMG]http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/punkrocker0382/pictureofvirus.png[/IMG]

Random Warning:

[IMG]http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/punkrocker0382/virus3.png[/IMG]

if I click ok on the warning (above picture) the IE window below opens

[IMG]http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/punkrocker0382/virus2.png[/IMG]

I have tried using Norton Internet Security - which found these results.
Like always Norton for some reason couldn't delete any of them so I had to go and do it manually.

installdrivecleanerstart.exe
installer.exe
sa39.exe
tmp38.tmp
viruxz.dll

I managed to delete viruxz.dll -- installdrivecleanerstart.exe --- installer.exe Whether these were permanently deleted …

My computer is currently running slower than when I bought it a year ago. I caught my son looking at quite a few inappropriate website and think our computer may have gotten some adware/spyware/trojans/keyloggers from them. I was here a few months ago and you guys did a really good job of helping me fix our computer. I did a scan with ewido and deleted everything it found. I scanned with Spybot Search and Destroy. It found 5 DSO exploits but even if I click "Fix," if I scan again they will show up again. I went into the registries but couldnt pin poin them even after trying to manualy search for them under "run." In addition to this, Nortan Antivurs keeps finding a trojan called oleext.dll but if I click remove it will say it cannot delete file "access restricted" even though I am the admin.

Thanks for your help guys!

Let me clear things up a bit. I am making a scanner and I want it to save a logfile in the Documents/My Games folder.

What is the code line or snippet to specify that directory?

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

I am running windows XP special Pack 2 and I use Dev C++ Compiler.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Alright thanks for the info. Instead of making a new directory can it also be placed in an existing one.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Is there a specific function in C++ to install/assign a file in a directory?
And if t here is are there any limitations to what it can distribute?
Are installation in multiple directories possible?

Thanks , and I hope to see the responses.

I immediately wanted to try some of the latest games on the market (e.g., Half Life 2). I bought the game, loaded it, and quickly found out the computer wouldn't play it. After many painful and unhelpful "run-arounds" with Sony and Intel non-support, I learned that many of today's games require a technology built into the hardware of the graphics controller. The PCV-RS720G computer with its "integrated graphics" doesn't support that hardware technology. So the games won't run. (NOTE: For those that care, it is called Hardware Transform and Lighting. The 720G's integrated solution performs T&L in software, which many games do not support.)

But never fear...I am a clever guy...I bought the PC because it had the ability to expand video capabilities via the PCI-E slot. RIGHT?...Well, this is only partly true. Sure, there is a slot for an upgraded video card that will support the new games. BUT (and this is a big BUT) PCI-E cards require at least 300W power and typically 350-450W. Low-and-behold, the SONY only comes with 295W power supply (PSU).

Well, I just need to swap out the PSU, right? Wrong! It turns out, to my great chagrin, that not only will replacing the PSU void my warranty but also no 350W PSU exists on the market that will fit into the case. Turns out (and this is not a Sony-Only thing) that Sony had a PSU specially built …

I am having a similair problem with my GeForce 7800 GT

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

If you want to spend just a little bit more than 300$ I just got a new EvGa GeForce 7800 GT. Its a little bit better than most other 3rd party 7800 GT's. That would be my performance recomendation.

heres my DONT USE BECAUSE IVE TRIED TO GET IT TO WORK FOR 9 HOURS AND STILL CANT GET IT TO WORK RECOMENDATION - EvGa GeForce 7800 GT. It tears almost immediately on age of empires 3 and it doesnt have anything to do with settings. If I set it too low or high it will eventualy start tearing and freeze up.

In conclusion I have mixed feelings about this card. My friend has a GeForce 7800 Gt from Chainsaw and the graphics look beautiful. Bottom line is get a 7800 GT but check the 3rd party companies forums to check how many problems their card has.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Also has anyone every installed a new power supply into a Sony Vaio RS720G. Ive never replaced mine and need to figure out how to go about detaching my old one, putting my new one in, and making sure the power supply is even compatible with my computer.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Alright I just got a EvGa GeForce 7800 GT OC for Christmas only to find out my power suply is too low. My local Fry's is closed on christmas and Monday so in the meantime I would like some help deciding which power supply I should get. I need at least a 400 watt power supply but was thinking anywhere from 400-480 watts would be alright as well.
I want a power supply that gets the job done, is good at cooling,is not too big, and is quiet (I know im asking for a lot there but tell me if thats possible).

I was recently looking at ones on tigerdirect.com and stubbled upon this one.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=719594&Tab=11&NoMapp=0

Could you tell me if this is any good or whats wrong with this one? And if you reccommend something else?

Thanks - Niklas

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Because although I am very flexible in my spending im not spending $460 on something that will be a lot cheaper in a few months. Besides I feel that his card is fucking awesome as is.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Just to remind you if you get the GeFroce 6800 GT Ultra . You better have your computer in a nice open room cause if your in a small one with carpet thats gonna get really hot your card will overheat. The Ultra is the best of the 2 by quite a lot but it pretty much Drinks your powers supply.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Alright thanks for the info. Is it possible to build your own custom laptop. I am trying to find the line in between quality hardware and heating issues.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

Never been a big fan of pay for posts idea. IMO its not healthy for over all growth of the forum/community.

Personally I would never do that because in my forum I would want quality posts made by users who are actualy thinking about the same things as me. I dont want as someone stated "mercenaries" pretending to be my friends and ditching me.

Now if you should or should not do it depends on the audience you are trying to get. I agree that the content will have the site grow by itself and thus you need content relating to your topic. For example if you have a gamers forum. Try making some of your own games or even ask other programmers with succesful games if you coudl host them on your site. Free game demos need no license to be distributed so that would be a good idea s well.

So please let us know what your target audience is and mind you if its something like Programming that YOU already have a great community to be a part of.

Niklas -4 Junior Poster

I'm a novice programmer and even I can imagine in my head what this would look like. Bottom line dont be lazy and have us do your homework for you. Its novice programmers like you who give others (me) who actualy try a bad name.

Read the first 3 chapters of any Beginner C++ book to find your answers.
