Update:
Having reviewed the situation fully, joshSCH is no longer banned although the account is carrying a 5 point infraction which will stay for six months.
Josh has said that he will probably not post for a while to let things cool down.

Don't try to cover anything up by lying or closing my threads. I want people to read this, and respond to it.
Please refrain from the accusations of lying, and we will certainly close any thread that is destined to become a flame war.
I have responded to you in detail by PM...
It's my damn opinion and I'm free to say whatever the hell I want (not really, but I like to think so).
Sorry, but when you make a death threat then you cannot expect us to sit back and do nothing, your opinion or not. There are rules, and the keep it pleasant one is important otherwise the forums would quickly become a huge mass of absusive posting. We do not allow sexism, racism or religious prejudice in postings, and we certainly do not allow death threats.
Welcome to DaniWeb, kind of fitting you are a Mac user, being Scottish :)
Indeed. We rely on people flagging posts, and with mods/admins that cover pretty much all time zones can usually deal with reported spam and spammers in a timely manner.
FWIW, and although it may often not seem that way, we appreciate your feedback. Of course, we often do not agree with it, but debate is always healthy.
As for the games situation, this will be resolved very shortly now as Dani and I have pretty much come to an agreement based upon all the discussion here and in other forums, as well as privately between the two of us.
It was aimed at anyone who is getting overly upset by negative rep, in particular Christine :)
oh wow, at least firefox's spell checker actually works without you having to right click in the text area and check 'spell check this field'.
It has always worked for me that way, to be honest.
Let's not go down this road as it will only lead to a flaming thread methinks.
Back on topic please...
Don't get hung up on your negative rep would be my advice. It's a bit like the bullies at school, when they realise you do not get upset by the name calling they pick on someone else.
Hi Joe, welcome to DaniWeb from one geek to another...
That's why I've lumped you into a category of new members who seem oblivious to what Daniweb is all about. For some reason, Daniweb's staff now tolerates this kind of non-contributory member, doesn't issue infractions against rule violations, allows threads to be hijacked, etc.
Christina contributes to the Geek's Lounge where her postings are on topic and welcomed.
We do issue infractions against rule violations, the reason the 'keep it clean' rule was not invoked in response to your complaints within this thread is simply that it was decided the postings concerned were obviously in jest and so no in need of an infraction. However, we do monitor the situation and we do infract when deemed appropriate.
The term hijacking depends on how you look at it, if a thread is developing and remaining interesting and useful then it is allowed to grow, if it is a straightforward misuse then it is not.
Since I am the author, I could update them... :icon_wink:
Point me at what you consider to be the best two tutorials you have penned, and which could be updated for exclusive DaniWeb publication and I will be happy to take another look.
Welcome to DaniWeb!
The offer was appreciated Walt, but your tutorials already appear elsewhere (and many were rather old, as you yourself admitted) so would not be adding fresh and exclusive content for DaniWeb - hence we couldn't take them.
I liked your alternatives Walt.
...and hello, we are old. ;-)
Speak for yourself, I am just maturing nicely ;)
Hi Saurav, welcome to DaniWeb.
Over a decade ago I authored a guide book to the whole smiley and TLA (Three Letter Acronym) thing, based largely around BBS and Usenet usage I think. Great fun, but in the real world I prefer to spell things out for clarity if possible. I get in trouble with my teenage kids for sending multiple text messages as I refuse to go down the SMS-speak route.
There is an argument, of course, that if you express yourself clearly in words in the first place then smilies are not necessary to dig you out of potential trouble later.
Welcome to DaniWeb. Not sure anything can 'hypnotism' anyone, but plenty of software makes me happy: Firefox, WordWeb, iTunes for starters :)
Thank you Matt for bringing this thread back on track, let's try and keep it there everyone...
Team colleague does not equal admin, it equals someone who used to be a mod or has otherwise been a friend to DaniWeb.
Admin equals admin, and that is Dani and myself.
HOWEVER
I will say this only the once: can those involved in the name calling please stop now before I get the big admin infraction stick out.
There is no justification for calling someone a retard, there is a 'keep it pleasant' rule which we do and will enforce.
This is the first and last warning here on the matter.
Like Joe said, it was an open user-submitted operation for the longest time, but the tutorials section became stuffed with some, frankly, rather poor quality content as a result.
So Dani and I took a decision to go for less volume but higher quality, something which will benefit everyone in the long run.
In order to submit a tutorial now you have to contact me and we can discuss your idea. The submitted copy is then put on hold and reviewed/edited before it finally appears.
The reason there are so few tutorials currently is simply because a couple of months ago we took the opportunity to totally revamp the tutorials section, which meant the majority of postings were either deleted (for such things as copyright violation where they were cut and pasted from other sites) or moved back into forum threads (where they were of too low a quality for tutorials for whatever reason, be that too old, poorly written, or simply not really a tutorial at all.)
So yes, at the moment there isn't a lot there, but what there is should be of the kind of quality you would hope to find at DaniWeb.

It is also a forum where members who have donated financially to DaniWeb, along with moderators and team colleagues, get together to chat and debate various issues relating to DaniWeb.
Dani and I are looking at ways we can improve this part of the system.
Bear with us, we are doing our best to make DaniWeb a friendly place but also one that is manageable for the moderator team. The automatic PMs sent replaced the need for mods to write them for each action, and has cut moderating time by 50% or so. Important seeing as everyone is a volunteer.
We had assumed that things were working OK as nobody has actually complained in all the time that the system has been running. Quite possibly becuase 99% of the time reminding the OP to check the FAQ and rules before posting is appropriate I would imagine.
But anyway, we are looking at the issue and will make changes if needed.
A bit late, the sausages were all eaten nearly a year ago and there is no mention of a repeat. Which is odd, as sausages usually have that effect on me.
Hi Scudzilla, welcome to DaniWeb even if you have been here a couple of months now. :)
It is a visual guide to your reputation. You get points if someone feels your posting has been helpful enough to them to 'add rep' for you. The more important/powerful (in reputation and/or management terms) the person giving the rep is, the more points you get. So an admin giving you rep would be worth more than a newbie member with no postings to their name.
By the same token, you can also get negative reputation points if someone feels strongly that you are being unhelpful, disruptive or giving bad advice.
So it is really just a way of quickly measuring the reputation of the person providing an answer to a question.
Hey welcome aboard Terry.
Hey, please don't leave. The PM you got is an automated one that gets sent to whoever started a thread when it is closed.
If you read the closing post by Dani in the thread itself, you will see that she closed it because the 'debate' was turning into nasty bickering and doing no justice to the memory of the people killed at VT.
You were certainly not to blame for that, and it would not have been our intention to suggest you were - it does flag the question of whether the automated warning system worked properly in this case, and that is something Dani and I will look at and discuss.
In the meantime, please don't leave. Pretty please :)
What sort of code? If you are asking for something illegal I should warn you that we do not tolerate such things here at DaniWeb.
On the assumption that you are not, of course, welcome to the greatest not so little support community on the web.
Hi Shaebie, welcome to DaniWeb my interestingly named friend.
Yep, if you get a scam PM just forward it to me and Dani (best do both to ensure the quickest response, what with being in different time zones) and we will see the user is banned as soon as possible.
Also note that there is no compulsion to post as a member of DaniWeb, lots of members use us to get the help they need by reading the posts of others.
While it would be nice if more people contributed by posting, it would be quite wrong to punish those who do not.
Plus, there is an argument in favor of it being better for people with nothing to add, well, to add nothing...
Let's keep it pleasant guys, before the infraction stick comes out.
The side by side comparison is very interesting Dani, and has made me even more certain that the new font size is the right way forward.
Nothing, but please do only welcome new members...
Mike, jbennet has been a member since 2005!
Welcome to DaniWeb, Marzena. You are right, those guys, in fact everyone who forms part of the DaniWeb community is great. :)
