AVG Free Antivirus catches viruses that Symantec/Norton does not. Learned that from years of experience with AVG. I remove Symantec/Norton first with the Norton Removal Tool from their website before installing AVG.

This is what I had to do in Internet Explorer:
Go to Tools at the top of the page
Internet Options
Connections Tab
LAN Settings
UN-CHECK Automatically Detect Settings
You can use the Windows CD to do a repair. It keeps all your current files intact.
XP Repair Install:

(but, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R")
I thought it would be great if we share our softwares here. So post your favourite software here that other people would love to have.
Note: Please write some description about the software and a link from where it can be downloaded.
CCleaner
CCleaner is the number-one tool for cleaning your Windows PC. It protects your privacy online and make your computer faster and more secure. Easy to use and a small, fast download.

I run it after every session on the Internet, because it deletes temp files where viruses/spyware launch. It also has a Registry Cleaner included in it.
confusertech, (he) already mentioned having installed AVG 7.5 in (his) initial post. Although, that does bring up an interesting point:
wazy, check your Add/Remove Programs list and make sure you only have ONE Antivirus and ONE Firewall installed. Also, which AVG product are you referring to, the free edition, or the full Internet Security suite? Free only has the AV, but the full one has a firewall as well. If you do have any other antivirus or firewalls installed, those can DEFINITELY cause an issue. Antivirus programs are known for fighting one another and locking up systems.
DEFINITELY check that out!!!!!
I don't use the AVG Security Suite with firewall. I use the free version of Zone Alarm and turn off the Windows Firewall. Some people find Zone Alarm confusing and can actually accidentally disallow a site that should be allowed.
Hi I cannot access my hard drive on my hp nx6310 laptop. The DVD rom will also
not read any discs. Please help
Make sure all the inside and outside connection cables are tight and not loose. That was a friend's problem after the computer was cleaned and moved around.
Always defrag in "Safe Mode". When booting up hit F8 or Ctrl to get into Safe Mode then go to defrag. Your pc will defrag faster. More important it will defrag properly, because you do not have files in use like in "Normal" mode, consequently not defragmenting properly.
1. Ccleaner: clears out all temp files before they have a chance to launch a virus where most viruses hide, run after every Internet session.

Hello. I'd appreciate any ideas. No sites seem to tell me what this is: when I go to shut down my computer, an error message pops up that simply says, "fail" nothing more. I X it out and the computer shuts down. What is this????
What OS are you using? XP, 98, or?
1. Run free Ccleaner
2. Run AVG free Antivirus
3. Run AVG free Antispyware
Make sure you uninstall Norton or McAfee Anitvirus, or any other Antivirus software you have first before loading AVG Antivirus. AVG catches viruses Norton and McAfee misses. We know from experience.

I forgot to mention, many of the newer Toshiba laptops that have come out have manufacturer defects. Toshiba USA does little to rectify their problems if warranty is past, unlike in years past.
Yes, Dell will do it, if you like Dell, not :o(. There are brand new laptops on the Internet and Ebay with XP on them.
This is just a guess:
With IE Explorer open goto View at top and Toolbars and uncheck the ones that you do not want to view.
