Niche directories are the most efficient in terms of driving traffic to your site and improving your position in search engines. Now it depends if you are willing to spend a few buck for paying the submission fee.

I will combine both. Facebook is the market leader... but on the lon term I'll put my money on G+.

Remember that creating a Facebook Fan page for your business is just the starting point. Afterwards, you have to put a lot of work into updating constantly the page with fresh content. Next, attract large base of fans by engaging in discussion with them.

Remember that link diversity is essential for a good rank on search engines... therefore, make sure you post regularly on forums related to your niche
