2009 begins with a bang! The world is about to witness a very historical moment as president-elect Barack Obama assumes the reins, becoming America's first black president. After all the inauguration madness settles, it will be time to get down to business.

Considering the hostility that sometimes rears its ugly head in American politics, I am very worried that he steps into the White House at a very bad time, he will work under tremendous pressure. Personally, I don't think he can achieve what he promises to do; get Republicans and Democrats to work together and all that.

Can he deliver?

Well, it took George Bush eight years to make such an ungodly mess, so it will take Barack Obama and his team a little while to fix it. The first things you may see is that the torture of prisoners is gone, and the US will treat other countries like partners and not like door mats.

No....................

The President is not a miracle worker -- although I think that was one of his campaign promises :) All presidential-hopefuls promise things in their campaigns that they can't possibly fullfill, or that they later decide are unworkable. And I wouldn't be supprised if Obama is the same.

I think he will......

He promised us Change.

He begins that by stacking his cabinet and senior positions with recycled Clinton era political hacks.

Turning the Oval Office into a tropical greenhouse, as he tells us we must cut back on energy usage.

Q: How do you get a Democrat politician to pay all his taxes?

A: Appoint him to a cabinet position.

You creepy conservatives give us 8 years of sh*t with Bush; you complain because we talked trash about Bush and didn't give him a chance; now you talk trash about our president.
Let's quote VP Cheney on the economy:
We did worry about [the economy], to some extent.

Let's count the blessings of the conservative free market:
Enron
Peanut Corp. of America
Bernie Madoff
Senator 'wide stance'
Rep. Foley
8 years of partisan politics - now whining about the lack of bipartisanship because no one wants another 8 years of tax-cut based negative economy
Alberto "I am a victim" Gonzales
Let's not forget Jack Abramoff - he is still dragging down Repube/conservatives - Fraser Verrusio is just the most recent; so far he seems to have tainted most of the Republican party.
You guys got so much to be proud of.

Saving America is our job, not the president's.
Half of the voters fell for the republicans scare tactics or voted for social causes that are not relevant to America's future.
The democrats failed to put up a decent candidate, so even a moron like Bush was able to flimflam the public, twice.
Get educated. Vote with your brain. Write your representative.

Folk who don't know why America is the Land of Promise should be here during an election campaign.
-- Milton Berle

We cannot judge Obama for now since he is yet to show anything that might say otherwise, the one thing we can do now, is just to believe in him and have faith in him that he can do it. That he can save America.

I think he can do it....its not possible to change the whole situation with single hand it needs support of all. So its our responsibility to give our scope to come out from this negative economy... I hope he will save America.

Let's have the parallel between American & Mr. Obama.

You guys may laugh, but I think social media will have a strong effect on politics from now on. In this way, there are less secrets that can be kept, news stories can become viral in a matter of hours, and more and more people are engaged with what's going on and talking about it. So, I think he has to be more accountable, and his administration's already acknowledging the importance of Web 2.0.

And false stories spread even faster than facts. And seem to persist longer. And the administration knows that as well.

One "change" the President has already made is conducting "town hall meetings". He had one just today in Elkhart, Indiana. To my knowledge no other President has ever done that. Usually when they get into the white house they just stay there.

Oowh! I just got all tingling of excitement inside, hearing of such achievement already.
Here, a little bit more of the promised change.
Gotta love the title: The Rapacity of Odacity

I am glad you got all tingling about the town meeting - a completely open town meeting where anyone who got a fcfs ticket got in. When is the last time that happened? At least 8 years ago. Bush needed paid shills in the house to ask soft ball questions.

Obama openly talks and listens to the folks that actually suffer. Bush would have held his show in front of military folks at a some base. There is hope!

Very few Americans like socialism. And even fewer like the Bailout plan that is being formed in Congress. But what else can we do? I haven't heard of a single alternative and positive proposal. Doing nothing is not a viable solution because it will probably just make things worse than it is now.

And we can't point fingers just at the Bush administration -- this has been brewing every since Jimmy Carter. It is the "American Dream" that everyone owns their own home -- and a huge one at that. According to 2000 statistics the average size of the American household is 2.58 people. According to the National Association of Home Builders, the average home size in the United States was 2,330 square feet in 2004, up from 1,400 square feet in 1970. So why do people need such large homes when they can't afford the house payments ? And what do they do with those large homes once they become empty nesters?

>Very few Americans like socialism.
Ha! for not liking it, they are embracing it very well. Furthermore, I doubt few could tell what it is.

>But what else can we do?
Stop supporting and believing in the rhetoric of those that foment socialism.

> I haven't heard of a single alternative and positive proposal.
Allow me to doubt that. What is bad is bad, whether there's a different solution or not. (Biting into your assumption)
Remember the urgency with which this all thing started? The doom was so imminent at the door. Big money was approved in unprecedented haste to bail out banks. Suddenly, the purpose of that money started to shift...
Now there's another rush and the gloom and doom is upon ourselves. Stimulus is the "buzz" word everywhere and what started with some few doze billions of dollars, it is now, well above a trillion...
Stop supporting those that foment and preach socialism as an alternative. It is not.
Do you want to hear a proven alternative? Let the people keep the money they honestly have earned by labor, (that include the so called rich, and the so called poor); do not reward those that haven't earned money with their effort in a honest manner. And above anything else, limit the entitlement and size of government in the life of people.
I know that's not what you want to hear, but now you can not say you haven't hear a "single alternative and positive proposal".

Build model railroads.

Oh, wait, won't have any money to buy the models.

>Very few Americans like socialism.

You do not know what it is - unless you can define it.

>But what else can we do?
Stop supporting and believing in the rhetoric of those that foment socialism.

What socialism? You keep screaming 'socialism'; well - put up or shut up. Define socialism and point to the socialism that you are talking about.

Yeah! that was the lap-dog of the right, W, that shoveled Billions out the door to bankers with no requirement for accountability.

Now there's another rush and the gloom and doom is upon ourselves. Stimulus is the "buzz" word everywhere and what started with some few doze billions of dollars, it is now, well above a trillion...

No it isn't - pay attention. One dollar is closer to one hundred fifty billion dollars than eight hundred billion is to one trillion.

Stop supporting those that foment and preach socialism as an alternative. It is not.

Again, I challenge you to define socialism and then point to socialism in the package

No tax cut has put a police officer on the beat; no tax cut has put a teacher in the classroom. You are spouting nonsense. I want to hear what your plan is, how it will get the economy out of this crisis.

Amen to that :) :)

Amen to that :) :)

Misguided you are. No having even clear where you stand.
At one hand pretending to be concern of the imposed socialism that its invading this country at a monumental stride, and at other hand, accepting the "bamboozling" rhetoric of a self professed liberal and socialist. You are a puppet of the popular wind! Wherever it blows there you go.
Do you really believe that allowing you to keep more of what you make somehow it's going to eliminate policemen on the street or teachers in the classroom? Do you really believe that reducing government in the life of people and making it subject to accountability is harmful to you and yours?
Do you accept that your government is doing a good job, and that billions before and over a trillion dollars now it is an acceptable price tag?
Why don't you sign your pay check away and let the institution "manage it" for you? Because you're not a fool, but rather a misguided one.

>>At one hand pretending to be concern of the imposed socialism that its invading this country at a monumental stride

Yes I am concerned about it, but what are the alternatives? You mentioned one in a single sentence. That has been tried several times before and didn't produce desired or lasting results.

>>Wherever it blows there you go
Quite possibly :)

>>Do you really believe that reducing government in the life of people

Deregulation is what got is into this mess. People with power just can't be trusted to do the right thing, they have to be watched like a hawk. Unfortunate, but true.

>>and making it subject to accountability
Obama is trying to fix that too. Bush spent $350Billion with no accountability and we now have not a single thing for all that money.

Aia is not even able to define his terms - most of his rants are pretty much 'ditto-head' mouthings from Rush and/or BillieO.

Do you really believe that allowing you to keep more of what you make somehow it's going to eliminate policemen on the street or teachers in the classroom? This question shows that he unable comprehend my statement - No tax cut has put a police officer on the beat; no tax cut has put a teacher in the classroom.

I think of Barack Obama as a modern day Abe Lincoln!

As to Republican taxcuts, what are all those unemployed folks going to do with a taxcut?

"Can Barack Obama save America?"

Is that a joke? If anything, Obama will DESTROY America. He's a manipulative socialist bastard...

Obama will expand government every chance he gets. He will use our current economic recession to his advantage much in the way that Adolf Hitler did in the 30s. He will destroy our economy, ruin our overseas reputation, destroy our alliances, and ultimately kill the American way-of-life as we know it.

If your Bush style American way-of-life is huge unemployment, you can have it for yourself.
