I have an Western Digital 320g external hard drive that isn't showing up on my xp. The power light goes on but it sounded like the drive wasn't turning. So I gutted the driver assuming the case was bad. As of right know I am right. I hear the drive turning, but know the computer doesn't recolonize the driver.
I went to start, clicked on run, and check all of my disk management. Still the drive isn't showing. Can someone lead me in the right direction.

Have you tried "Add Hardware" in control panel?

I would also suggest contacting the manufacturer.

thanks for replying, but still this is getting to me. I went to add hardware, then went through all of the steps, know it's asking me to identify which hardware to add. I let windows try to find it. The result was system couldn't find software, but added my hardware..does this make sense to you..thanks again.

perhaps the HDD has a driver you need to install. check the WD website.
