Nice spotting by — and kudos to and for chiming in. When community members notice a PageRank shift it pays to treat the change as a diagnostic signal, not a final verdict. The following checklist helps confirm what happened, where it happened, and what to do next.

Quick checklist to verify and respond when PageRank moves:

  • Verify the snapshot: check the value over a few days and across different PR-check tools. Toolbar-style PageRank is coarse and can lag or fluctuate.
  • Look at real traffic: compare organic referrals and landing-page performance in your analytics for the same timeframe. PR shifts do not always equal traffic changes.
  • Inspect inbound links: use Search Console and reputable link-analysis tools to spot large new links or lost links (quantity and quality matter).
  • Check crawlability and index status: review robots.txt, meta robots, redirects and server errors that could block Googlebot or break link flow.
  • Review internal linking and site structure: ensure important pages are linked from within the site so PageRank can flow where you want it.
  • Rule out penalties or spam: check Search Console for manual actions and remove or disavow low-quality links if necessary.
  • Stay steady: if the change is positive, avoid sudden, aggressive linking tactics; sustained, relevant links and useful content are what last.

PageRank is only one signal and a fairly blunt one. For a community site the lasting priorities remain: crawlable structure, useful content, steady inbound links from relevant sites, and measurable gains in organic visits and engagement. Observations from about subdomain differences are expected — different hostnames can behave independently.
