I suggest you use a directory watcher, (if new files all end up in the same place) that way your PERl code will be able to respond when a new file "comes out" and act accordingly.
thanks!

This is a great book. Comes very handy. I was never good with OOP and the OOP section in this book was thorough enough that I now understand the basics with OOP programming in PHP. Highly Recommended.

I think table's have a use. Ifyou want to quickly put up data and have it displayed properly in the least amout of time, i would go with a table. Creating a table format in CSS is no easy task. As dani said CSS has it's benefits. Ease of design …

yea it is; there are simple things you can do to dimish the risk of you installing it till they release the patch. One is disable the image viewer, second is disable downloads (set security settings to high), third you can switch to firefox for the time being.

Yes, i do see the adlinks quite a bit. I was a bit turned off that it takes you to a google page and then a user has to click on those ads for you to get paid. Any success with adlinks? Let us know.

After running the site without e-mail activation for few months, I am slowly pondering turning it back on. Two main reasons: - I would like clean e-mail addresses to keep in touch with registered members. - It deters spammy posts.

Are you still experiencing the same CTR or has it tappered off by now? Since daniweb has been online for a while and you have run adsense for a long time too, do you have any advice to improve ctr. Placement, color, tips and trick.

Yea, it's a very tricky update. Some people are reporting less pages indexed on the new BD servers. I think it's just that they are rolling out the new updates, then they will send out the crawlers when the update is done. Within a couple of months everything should be …

Did ok, we moved up a notch. Do you there is any more value left in gauging sites with PR? I've seen some very horrible looking PR7's and PR8's lately.

Are you talking about the BigDaddy updates? I think they have more servers converted to BD now. Pagerank updates are coming to an end too, I believe. How are you faring with the new updates?

Interesting thread. Growing a community is hard work. I thought it would be easy, but learning there is a lot more to it. Dani does a great job of staying in touch with her community and getting feedback from them about the direction of daniweb. I like the members here. …

In the market to buy a thin light laptop. I don't need a desktop replacement. Just something where i can move my IM/Email and basic browsing on to. Also something to lug around airports and hotels rooms. I don't have any experience doing this, but from what i've heard it is. You should be ready by learning how to use a proper ad management tool. Such as phpadnews or hosted ad servers.

I haven't implemented this system, but I do believe it serves a good purpose. One of the reasons forums are so successful is that they promote information exchange. A reputation system allows new members to quickly find out which members are most likely to post meaningful topics and responses. I …

Dani's advice is sound. Forum's aren't the most lucrative of sites and you will have to differentiate yourself in the market. If your up for the challenge, a good community is very attainable.

The best kinda traffic is natural linked traffic. When you get into redirects, it's very sketchy. While they might send you traffic, it might be non-performing traffic. Conversions will be low, member signups will be low and the visitors might leave right away.

Never used it. There are lot of free hosts out there, be careful, as nothing is free in this world and you might have to give up quality and service for that free.
