Short answer: regular (so-called "dofollow") links are still the primary way search engines use backlinks to pass ranking signals, but nofollow/UGC/sponsored links are not worthless — they help discovery, referral traffic and make a link profile look natural. and are correct that followed links carry more direct SEO weight; , and are right that nofollow placements still matter for traffic and naturalness. Dofollow is just the default state of a normal <a> link; Google changed its treatment of rel="nofollow" in 2019 and now treats nofollow/sponsored/ugc as hints rather than absolute blocks. (ahrefs.com)

Practically: aim for editorial, relevant links from authoritative sites first. Use rel="sponsored" (or rel="nofollow") for paid placements and rel="ugc" for user-generated links — that both follows Search Central guidance and reduces risk of link-scheme penalties. Do not try to "game" rankings by buying links that pass PageRank; Google explicitly warns against buying/selling links that pass ranking credit. Nofollow/ugc links often still send real visitors and can lead to future organic (followed) mentions, so don’t ignore them when building a natural profile. (developers.google.com)

Quick, actionable checklist:

  • Earn editorial links with great content and outreach; prioritize topical relevance and authority.
  • If you pay for placement, insist on rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow".
  • Let forums/comments be rel="ugc" by default; only remove it for trusted contributors.
  • Monitor backlink profiles with an SEO tool and watch anchor-text diversity (avoid over-optimized anchors).

Example link markup (use where appropriate):

<a href=" (follow) link</a>

<a href="https://example.com" rel="ugc">user-generated content</a>

<a href="https://example.com" rel="sponsored">paid / sponsored</a>

For the current technical rules and best-practice examples see Google Search Central and related guidance. (developers.google.com)

According to me.. No follow links are little less important in comparison of do follow.

dofollow links are more valueble than nofollow links. Dofollow links helping to get better page rank.
But also the nofollow links have some role on our website. they can give traffic to our site.

Dofollow links a re really handy in increasing your PR and ranking in search engine as well.
