I'm just starting out and would like to get my name out there a little. I only send 100 e-mails a week or so and most of them are to the same people. I've heard that e-mail footer advertising works pretty well. It did for yahoo and hotmail. I'd like to know if anyone knows of a free e-mail service that allows you to sponsor their e-mail footers?

— signature/footer advertising can produce impressions, but there are tradeoffs worth knowing before investing time chasing free placements. Because you email the same people frequently, a persistent promo in every message can annoy recipients and harm response rates. is right that contributing useful content in places like forums builds reputation more sustainably. ' suggestion to look for providers is fine, but vet them carefully.

Practical, low-effort steps if you try a signature ad:

  • Keep it one short line with a clear benefit and a single call-to-action.
  • Send the link to a dedicated landing page so you can measure clicks and conversions.
  • Use simple tracking parameters in the URL (for example: https://yourdomain.com/landing?utm_source=email&utm_medium=signature&utm_campaign=footer) to monitor performance in analytics.
  • Rotate the message every few weeks and test variations on a small sample first.
  • Avoid heavy images or third-party tracking in the signature — these can be blocked or increase the chance mail gets treated as promotional.

Compliance and reputation notes: if messages are commercial, follow applicable laws (CAN-SPAM, CASL, GDPR where relevant), provide clear sender details and an opt-out, and prefer a business domain with a clean sending reputation over relying on free webmail accounts. Measure clicks, replies, and unsubscribe signals — if engagement drops, stop the ads and try a different tactic.
