My machine was installing upgrades from Microsoft (XP) and we had a power cut which crashed the machine. Now, the machine won't start. When I turn it on it says that there was a power issue, but trying to use last settings or normal settings leads to a blank screen with only the cursor showing.

If I start it in Safe mode - I get to a screen that says (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254: Service Pack 2) and stays on that. The rest of the screen is blank except for "Safe Mode" in each corner, and the cursor still moves.

Question is: what's wrong, can it be fixed and how do I get my stuff back!! Cheers

Sadly it came preloaded on the machine, so no CD

sorry to her that ,and i guess it doesn't have a floppy drive either .

do you get the last known good configuration choice, on the safe mode choice screen .

It does, you get the Microsoft Windows Xp holding page for about 60 seconds, then it goes blank except for the cursor, and stays like that
