Using windows disk management (right click my computer on xp and choose manage. then on the left choose disk management)

Alternatively, create tha partitions during OS installation

If you have a pre-existing installation and want to create separate partitions using with different letter designations, I'd suggest using a third party "partition manager". It will let you resize, rename, delete, create, whatever you'd like to do, partitions on your hard drive.

I use Acronis disk manager, which is a paid program, but there are plenty of free ones out there with varying levels of functionality.

Vista now includes resizing as standard.

yes it does, but xp does not ! so only option it to use 3rd party partition tool or created multiple partitions when installing win xp
