i have an lg dvd rw but its not writing cds or dvds. furthermore its not reading vcds and dvds but can read data cds,can some one please help me with this problem.

This sounds like a software problem, afterall to the actual DVD-RW drive, there is no difference between a data CD or a VCD. Check your software, try downloading imgburn and burning a disc image onto a blank disc, as the discs themselves may be CD-R or DVD-R.
