I know that slot A processors aren't in production, and I have been told that socket A processors are also out of production, is this true?

No that is not true so whoever told you that is not up on the technical knowhow of PCs. A socket A processor is an AMD processor namely an AMD sempron

im using an AMD sempron and my PC's only 3 months old. self built

I'm going with a AMD Athlon 64 3400+, and a Asus K8V board. I will check out the two suggest sites, thanks.
