this just started happening w/in the hour, so I'm kinda still alittle in panic mode...

but upon boot up my compy will randomly freeze anywhere from the bios screen to the desktop

I think there may be a static leak somewhere, but I'm looking for other possible options...

IK a freeze at the bios could be:
RAM (eliminated that)
HDD power short (havn't tested)
CPU (New)
card slots (checked, but havn't passed)
BIOS chip (very low chance)
MBD (doubtably, but hopefully not)

I also tested my lights for shorts and found a broken tube allowing a possible wire to case short...
but I fixed that already
(I have flourescent lights installed)

the only last thing I can think of would be:
using too much power (untested)

but I have a new 400W supply, so I highly doubt it...

I can list my specs if needed >_>

eh heh...
actually, that's pretty much what just happened :P

I turned it on in it came up with a bios reset message...
it hasn't frozen since >_>

EDIT:
I don't quite get why it's done that though...
I mean, the compy hasn't even been up but for almost 4 months...

I don't want to replace the MBD because this is my best compy...
and I don't think the MBD is even made anymore >_>
(Model: AS-Rock (can't find ID (K79##MG or something)))

the CPU (AMD AthlonXP +1900) may only be 1.4GHz,
but it out-performs my moms 3.45GHz Pentium4.
and also my 2.93GHz Celeron
(but my Celeron even does better than my mom's :srs: )

*sigh*...
guess it's not over... -.-
it just froze on me again...

however, on the restart, my monitors were on standby until it got to my desktop
(I have a 4 monitor rig using 2 monitors (2 cards + MBD))

I take this into concern because now, I think it might be my video card...

if I can get this Q answered:
has the gfx card listed below had any bad reports??
- Sparkle - Nvidia GE-Force 8400GS 512MB PCI (low profile + fanless)

if you need a pic, just search google
(it's blue with a large black heat-sink)

I only mention this one because it's the only one in use... heh...

yeah,it could be any of those things ,check event viewer yet ,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427

just now XDD

yeh... there isn't anything on the 22nd or 23rd
(the days the error happened)

luckily it hasn't happened yet,
but now it's just a black screen until it reaches my desktop...

I think the info may be displaying on my other gfx card though >_>
(I'm only using it as another processor atm)
- ATI rage 128 pro AGP 4x
(standby until I can DL the drivers for my EVGA 512MB AGP 8x)

EDIT:
there is however a 'service control manager' error on the 24th and up >_>

====
this could indicate a dead bios battery on the motherboard ,if it is then the bios would revert back to factory default settings

yea, I'm pretty sure it was something I had set in the bios that was causing my video card to mess up and freeze...
I've only had the card for not even a year yet >_>
(although I did have to exchange the card since the first one blew up)
so maybe this card is faulty too >_>

keep in mind though, the rig may have only been just set up,
but most of the parts have been used for years...
(the MBD was just sitting around for years, since I couldn't get it working)
^I'd only used it once before the RAM died

at that time it had an AMD Sempron 1.6 GHz which broke of an unknown cause >_>
(it's been in a packaging for years) :srs:

so yeh... I think faulty parts is to blame...
although, it hasn't frozen for a few days now... >_>

ok...
I found out my problem...

it was my MBD -.-*
dangit >_<

luckily I have a lower grace replacement >_>
(my Celeron on another MBD)

dangit...
I DON'T WANT INTEL... I WANT AMD >:O

T_T

at least you have it fixed .if it helps i like Intel better than AMd ,i just find they perform a little better for me .a non gamer

not fixed... replaced T_T

and intel...
I get better performance out of a Celeron than a P4
(all 3 of my P4 CPU's constantly lock up when running alot of processes)
the Celerons just slow down a little

my AMD never missed a beat T_T

although AMD seems to be picky depending on the pins
(had a 940 pin Sempron that SUCKED)
