Hi, Just to see if anyone can help

My Pc running XP home has stalled and I want to take some photos ( that I hadn't backed up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) off before I do a complete reinstall of the drive.
There are two options as I see it

a) Run a repair install on the drive or
b) take the hard drive out and put in in my other machine (running xp pro) and extract the data.
Has anyone done B) before. If yes could you tell me any pitfalls to avoid. Anyone with any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
